Former Governor of Abia State and Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has called on Nigerians to remain patient and supportive of the economic reforms being implemented by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the measures as necessary steps towards achieving long-term economic stability and national prosperity.
Kalu made the appeal in his Eid-el-Kabir (Salah) message issued on Tuesday to Muslim faithful and Nigerians ahead of the celebration.
The former Senate Chief Whip acknowledged that the ongoing reforms may appear difficult and painful at the moment but insisted that they were designed to reposition the country’s economy and secure a better future for citizens.
According to him, Nigerians must remain hopeful and avoid losing faith in the country, stressing that unity, patience and collective sacrifice are essential ingredients needed to overcome the nation’s present economic challenges.
“The reforms may be painful today, but they are for good reasons and in the overall interest of Nigerians. I appeal to citizens to remain patient and supportive of the government as efforts are being made to rebuild the economy and secure a better future for all,” Kalu stated.
The lawmaker further emphasized the need for peace, national unity and religious tolerance among Nigerians, warning against divisive tendencies capable of undermining the country’s stability and development.
Kalu also advocated for a transition from a consumption-driven economy to a production-based economy, noting that increased investment in local production, entrepreneurship and industrial growth would help create employment opportunities and strengthen Nigeria’s economy.
“We must encourage investment, local production and entrepreneurship. A production-driven economy will create jobs for our youths, strengthen local industries and reduce overdependence on imports,” he said.
The senator urged Nigerian youths to embrace innovation, vocational skills and enterprise development as pathways to self-reliance and national growth.
While congratulating Muslim faithful on the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, Kalu prayed for enduring peace, improved security and economic prosperity across the country.
He expressed optimism that Nigeria would emerge stronger from its present economic situation through resilience, unity and shared sacrifice among citizens.
