Members of the Abia State Tricycle Operators Union, Umuahia Zone, have endorsed Governor Alex Otti for a second term ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The operators declared their support for Otti during a solidarity march to Government House in Umuahia on Friday, describing his administration’s performance in road infrastructure and other sectors as reasons for backing his re-election.
Speaking during the event, the chairman of the union’s Umuahia Zone, Chinweotito Godson Appolos, said improved roads had made their transportation operations easier and reduced the cost of maintaining their tricycles.
“Our members have witnessed improvements in governance under the present administration, particularly in road construction and rehabilitation, which has eased our transportation operations and reduced the cost of maintaining our tricycles.
“Unlike in the past when poor road conditions frequently forced us to take our tricycles to mechanics for repairs, the improved road network has reduced such challenges,” Appolos said.
Appolos pledged that the union’s members would support Otti’s re-election bid and vote for him and other Labour Party candidates in the 2027 general elections.
Responding, Otti, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Caleb Ajagba, thanked the operators for their support and recalled that poor road conditions had previously prompted residents and transport workers to protest.
“Before now, we used to see people like you protesting and blocking the roads because of the bad roads.
“Within three years, the Alex Otti-led government has wiped out the tears of Ndị Abia,” he stated.
The governor urged residents to collect their Permanent Voter Cards ahead of the 2027 elections, saying the cards were necessary for participating in the electoral process.
“Go and pick your PVC as collection of PVCs has started.
“The best way to demonstrate that you are with Alex Otti is to go and pick your PVC,” he stated.
Otti also urged residents to assess political leaders based on their performance and contributions to public welfare, warning them against being misled by politicians who, according to him, had failed to deliver comparable results while in office.
The governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Transportation, Obiọma Nwogbe, commended the operators for backing Otti’s administration and re-election bid.
