The Kebbi State Police Command has warned against further blockades of the Kebbi–Sokoto Federal Highway, threatening legal action against individuals and groups involved in disrupting traffic on the road.

The warning followed another highway blockade on Friday, October 9, which reportedly disrupted vehicular movement for about three hours.

The incident was the second of its kind, following a similar blockade on September 23, 2026, according to a statement issued by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, on Friday.

The police condemned the action, describing it as unlawful and a violation of the rights of other road users, including motorists and people requiring emergency medical attention.

“The blockade obstructed motorists, persons requiring emergency medical attention, and other members of the public from moving freely and conducting their lawful activities,” the statement said.

The command warned that disrupting traffic on the federal highway could create opportunities for criminal activities. It urged aggrieved individuals to pursue their grievances through lawful channels.

It advised those with complaints to approach their elected representatives, traditional rulers, and the Police Community Relations Committee rather than resorting to obstructing public roads.

“The Command warns that any recurrence will attract appropriate legal action, with organizers and participants liable to investigation and prosecution in accordance with the law,” the statement added.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar M. Hadejia, appealed to residents to respect the rights of fellow citizens and avoid actions capable of threatening public peace.

Hadejia also urged parents and guardians to caution their children and wards against participating in unlawful assemblies, stressing the importance of respecting the law.

He assured residents of the command’s commitment to maintaining public safety and ensuring the free movement of people and goods across the state.

The command further declared that it would no longer tolerate road blockades under any circumstances.

“Henceforth, the Command will not tolerate any blockage of road under any guise,” the statement said.

The police urged members of the public to remain law-abiding and use appropriate channels to resolve disputes without causing hardship to commuters and other members of the public.
