Ahead of the January 27-28 planned protest of the Nigeria Labour Congress against growing hardship in the country, the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Kenechukwu Onwuemelie on Monday met with labour leaders in the state.

A delegation of NLC led by Comrade Okoro Ogbonnaya had met with the police boss in Umuahia where he assured them that adequate security measures have been put in place to ensure the security and safety of everyone.

Spokesperson of the command, ASP Maureen Chinaka in a statement quoted the Abia CP reiterating the command’s commitment to ensuring the protection of lives and property of all residents of the state.

NLC had issued a notice to embark on the two-day protest over the high cost of living in the country.

It has called for the upward review of the minimum wage to at least N200,000, an amount the government says is not realistic.
