Christmas: Chief Amobi Ogah Felicitates With Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency

The MD/CEO Pauli Mama Group, Chief Amobi Ogah has congratulated the people of Isuikwuato/Umunneochi federal constituency as Christians globally celebrate Christmas, a festivity to mark the birth of Jesus Christ.

Chief Amobi (Agu Neche Ibe 1) says the occasion is an opportunity to spread love around one’s neighbourhood which Christ stood for.

In a Christmas message on Saturday, Chief Amobi, an oil and gas expert congratulated the people of the constituency for another opportunity to celebrate Christmas, saying it is a product of God’s grace despite challenges the country and the state have in recent times faced.

The APC stalwart while assuring the people that he is deeply concerned about their welfare and development stated that there is a better deal for them ahead despite the challenges of the present day.

He urged them to keep faith with God through whom all good things come from, stating that the future is bright for them.

Chief Amobi urged the people of the constituency to celebrate in moderation and be peaceful in all they do.

Recall that the philanthropist had earlier in the week rolled out Christmas gifts for widows in the federal constituency as part of measures to give them sense of inclusion this season.

Chief Amobi told ABN TV that the gesture is an outreach which takes place every 24th of December.

He notes that it is a covenant he made with God to touch the lives of widows, having come from a polygamous background where he said the family was not financially stable.

He expressed gratitude to God for opportunity to share with others what he has, assuring that the annual outreach which has ran for over ten years will continue as far as God gives him opportunity.

Barring a last-minute arrangement, Chief Amobi Ogah was persuaded to step down for Hon. Nkeiru Onyejeocha in the 2019 general election, the incumbent House of Representatives member for the constituency.

The decision followed Onyejeocha’s last-minute defection from her dwindling PDP to APC, where Chief Amobi almost held swear as the sole candidate.

Analysts believe that Onyejeocha’s defection to APC then followed a glaring defeat that awaited her at the polls.

Pundits believe that as the 2023 election draws nearer, Onyejeocha may be on her way to political retirement when she would be spending 16 years at the National Assembly.

Senator Abaribe Joins Abia Governorship Race

The Senator representing Abia South Senatorial District, Enyinnaya Abaribe, has informed Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of his intention to run for the governorship seat in 2023, sources have said.

It was learnt that he will contest on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

ABN TV reports that rumours of Abaribe’s interest in succeeding Ikpeazu has been flying around in the state for a while.

Abaribe is yet to officially declare his interest in the race.

It emerged on Saturday morning that Abaribe made his intention known to Ikpeazu, who also comes from the same local government as the Senator, during a meeting with the governor at the Abia Government House Lodge on Friday night.

The Senate Minority leader was said to have embarked on the visit with some Obingwa political stakeholders.

Our correspondent gathered that Ikpeazu was taken aback when Abaribe told him the reason for their visit.

A source said: “Governor Okezie Ikpeazu was thrown off balance when Senator Abaribe told him about his gubernatorial ambition because he had no idea why they wanted to seek audience with him.

“We learnt that Senator Abaribe just called him to tell him (Ikpeazu) that he wanted to see him.

“The governor thought it was the usual Christmas homage.

“The twist is that we learnt that some of the stakeholders that came with Abaribe didn’t know his mission.

“They too were surprised when Abaribe made his intention known to the governor.”

Efforts to reach Abaribe or any of his aides to confirm the development have been unsuccessful.

It was learnt that Abaribe will declare his plan soon.

Marriage Proposal: COAS Orders Immediate Release Of Detained Romantic Female Soldier

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya, has ordered the immediate release of a detained female soldier, Hannah Sofiat.

Sofiat had accepted a marriage proposal from a male corps member at the National Youth Service Corps Orientation Camp in Yikpata, Kwara.

However, a military source told our correspondent on Saturday that the Chief of Army staff had intervened and asked that she should be pardoned.

The source at Army Headquarters said that the COAS took the decision in the spirit of Christmas.

The source said that the female soldier had been warned and reprimanded for breaching the extant rule guiding the conduct of military personnel.

He said that the soldier had been forgiven and freed from detention to join her family and friends to celebrate Christmas.

According to the source, this is in line with the COAS vision to have a Professional Nigerian Army Ready to Accomplish Assigned Missions within a Joint Environment in Defence of Nigeria.

Sofiat had earlier been detained for violating military rules and regulations by getting involved in a public display of an amorous relationship with a paramilitary trainee – a corps member.

She was detained after video clips where she was seen accepting a marriage proposal from a male corps member at the NYSC orientation camp in Kwara, which went viral on social media.

Her detention had however elicited reactions from Nigerians who believed she should not be denied the right to love.

Several groups and individuals have been urging the Nigerian Army authority to release the female soldier.

The source told ABN TV, “The Chief of Army staff has intervened in the matter. He asked that she should be pardoned. The military authorities have considered the plea of the COAS and said she be released forthwith. Before the end of the day, she should have reunited with her family. ”

When contacted, the Army Spokesperson, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, confirmed the development.

He said, “What you are being told is correct.”

Nigerians Deserving Of A Country Devoid Of Fear, Harassment — Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has said Nigerians deserve a country that will guarantee the citizens are free from fear and harassment.

In a statement issued on Friday, the President recalled his trip to Maiduguri the Borno State capital where he addressed officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces serving in Operation Hadin Kai – a military operation aimed at fighting insurgency in the north-east.

He equally commended the Armed Forces for their selfless services to the nation, noting that some have ended up paying the supreme price by laying their lives for the peace and security of the country.

“In my address to the troops in Maiduguri yesterday, I charged them to stay focused to achieve our strategic goal of defeating ALL the adversaries of our nation, and restoring economic viability to the North-East, North-West, and all other parts of the country,” the statement read.

“Nigerians truly deserve a Country where they are free to go about their activities without fear or harassment.

“Let me also restate how grateful I am, as Commander-in-Chief, and how grateful the entire nation is, for the selfless sacrifices of our Armed Forces, which in some cases have entailed paying the supreme price.”

The President reiterated his administration’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of the nation’s Armed Forces, assuring that their sacrifices will never be in vain.

He emphasized that the Federal Government’s efforts in stabilising the security situation in the country should never be in doubt, adding that “all hands will continue to be on deck until the evils of insurgency and banditry and all forms of criminality are tamed.”

Buhari stated, “I know very well the importance of security as the foundation for growth and prosperity. Without securing the country, you cannot grow the economy.

“It is truly sad to see, in the North-West, people who have lived together for centuries and who share the same culture and outlook, resort to stealing, kidnapping and killing one another. But let me assure you that the progress we are seeing in the North-East, in terms of security, will be replicated in the North-West.

“Our military and other security agencies will certainly stabilize the situation, there is no doubt about that. This is why we are investing heavily in procuring hardware and equipment, to strengthen our efforts. Some of this hardware have already arrived, while others are being awaited.

After Contribution N15m, Bandits Still Demand Additional Levy, Fleeing Zamfara Communities Weep

Five villages in the Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State have been deserted due to persistent attacks by bandits who reportedly collect levies from the villagers.

The affected villages are; Karazau Dantsauni, Gidan-tsamiya, Gurgurawa, Kwalaye and Gudan-kaura.

A resident of the area, Musa Sani, said they had contributed and paid N15m levy enforced by the bandits, but the hoodlums were demanding an additional amount.

He said, “The bandits told us to give them N15m so that they would not attack us again. We sold some of our belongings including our farms and paid the sum but to our surprise, they are still insisting that they need more money. We informed the security agents about this sad development but nothing was done to prevent the bandits from taxing us.

“We even staged a peaceful protest in order to draw the attention of the security agents to come to our rescue but unfortunately some of our people were arrested by the police. So, we have to leave our villages and look for safe places because these heartless bandits can still come back to attack us.”

Sani maintained that 35 people, including women and children, who refused to run away from the area were kidnapped and taken to the bandits’ hideout.

He said more than 10 people had been reportedly killed by the bandits in Karazau village alone, lamenting that his younger brother, Ali, was among the slain victims.

He called on the security agents to come to their rescue and deploy adequate security personnel.

Commenting on the issue, the spokesperson for the police in the state, SP Mohammed Shehu, said there was no official complaint with regard to enforcement of levy on the communities by the bandits.

He stated that the police command had in the past one month deployed security personnel to secure the areas.

He said, “Although we did not receive any complaints regarding the collection of levies by the bandits, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ayuba Elkana, has already deployed the police in collaboration with other security agents to continue patrolling the area.”

A reliable source was quoted to have said that the Canadian and United States of America Intelligence Agencies are leading the negotiations to for an Igbo son to occupy the number one office in the country.

Recall that the people of the Southeast region of the country which boasts of estimated population of over 60 million and one of the three major ethnic groups in Nigeria is yet to produce the country’s democratically elected President since 1960.

Agitations arising from alleged marginalization had continued in the region since the Nigerian civil war ended in 1970.

The agitations have led to the formation of different secessionist movement with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) the most prominent.

According to the source, the US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken was the arrowhead of the negotiation. The source hinted that North America being a strong ally of Nigeria was worried with the recent security crisis ravaging the nation.

”Anthony Blinken had during his last visit to President Muhammadu Buhari told him that for the interest of peace and stability of Nigeria, he should hand over to someone from the South-East or South-South. He mentioned that the President must see someone who has capacity to hold the nation together. He told the President that an Igbo President would help to stabilise the nation and dust the tension created by successionist agitation.

Speaking further, the source said ”Nigeria is anchored, metaphorically, on a tripod formed by Hausa/Fulani, Yoruba, and Igbo nationalities, with each representing one of the three legs on which Nigeria stands.

“These intelligence agencies are working hard to convince President Muhammadu Buhari to hand over to someone who is knowledgeable about economy and acceptable to all from the other regions ,” the source said.

Interpol Systems Consultant and chieftain of APGA, Sir Chikwe Udensi has congratulated the people of Abia State at the occasion of Christmas celebration, expressing hope that State holds a better future.
