The Supreme Court has affirmed Ikechi Emenike as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State.

A five-member panel of the supreme court led by Tijani Abubakar on Thursday affirmed the judgment of the court of appeal delivered in December 2022.

The Abia APC had held parallel governorship primaries that produced Uche Ogah and Emenike as candidates of the party.

On May 26, the APC declared Emenike the winner of the governorship primary in the state.

On November 11, Binta Nyako, a federal high court judge, sacked Emenike and ordered INEC to recognise Ogah as the party’s governorship candidate in the state.

Both APC and Emenike had filed separate appeals challenging the verdict delivered by Nyako.

Dan Eke, another aspirant, also filed an appeal challenging the judgment of the trial judge that recognised Ogah’s candidacy.

In December 2022, the court of appeal sitting in Abuja affirmed Emenike as the party’s candidate.

In the unanimous verdict, Olabisi Ige, who led the appeal court panel, read out the names of the party members sent by the APC national secretariat to conduct the governorship primary that produced Emenike, affirming that the exercise was valid.

Another candidate, Dan Eke, also filed an appeal in which he contested the trial judge’s decision to recognize Ogah’s candidacy.

The court of appeal in Abuja confirmed Emenike as the party’s nominee in December 2022.

Olabisi Ige, who presided over the appeal court panel, read aloud the names of the party members appointed by the APC national headquarters to oversee the governorship primary that produced Emenike and affirmed the validity of the process in the unanimous decision.

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the last presidential election, Peter Obi, has charged the people of Kogi State to vote for the Labour Party and its candidate, Adejoh Okeme, in the forthcoming governorship election.

Obi, one of the leaders of the party, gave the charge in Lokoja on Thursday during the official presentation of the party’s gubernatorial candidate Okeme for the November 11, 2023 election in the state.

According to him, Kogi state has no business with poverty by virtue of the enormous potential abounding in the state, adding that the state hosts the giant steel company, river Niger and Benue including numerous mineral resources.

He advised the electorates in the state not to allow themselves to be deceived again by sugar-coated mouth politicians who will lure them for votes and after elections abandon them to their fate.

“When I held sway as the governor of Anambra State for eight years, I was able to transform education, health, and infrastructure that today positively affect the lives of the citizens in the state”. He noted.

He told the electorates that if they want similar development in Kogi State in the next two years they should use their Permanent Voters Card to usher in the candidate of the Labour Party for prosperity.

In her remarks, the National Woman Leader of the party Dudu Manuga charged the electorates to get ready with their PVCs to effect positive change that will bring about emancipation and development in their lives.

In his address the National Chairman of the party, Julius Abure, urged the people of the state to vote for Labour Party as the best alternative to other political parties in the state including the ruling APC.

He noted that the governorship election has created another opportunity for the people to vote for the candidate that will right the wrongs of the past and present leadership of the state for the better.

He pointed out that the Labour Party candidate has the experience, the capacity, and the education to take the state to the promise land and urged the electorates to seize the opportunity.

The candidate of the party Adejoh Okeme from Kogi East in his speech stated that the time has come for the people of Kogi state to take their destiny into their own hands by voting for a political party that has a human face.

He mentioned that the Labour Party has an agenda and policies that will transform the state and urged the people of the state to vote for him to utilise his wealth of experience and capacity to harness the abandoned resources in the state for the betterment of the people.

“I’m Sorry My Governor”, Shaibu Apologises To Obaseki

After what looked like a protracted crisis, the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, apologised to his boss, Governor Godwin Obaseki, on Thursday and begged for forgiveness.

He apologised after his investiture by Catholic Men Organisation Nigeria, CMN.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the investiture, Shaibu asked Obaseki to forgive and forget, just as he announced that he had relocated to his new office in accordance with the governor’s directive.

However, he added, there were still some work to be done in his new office located at 7 Osadebey Avenue.

Asked if he had resumed at his new office, Shaibu said: “We have resumed but there is still a lot of work to be done there.

“There is no problem about it. The governor has asked us to go there. Like I have always tried to prove, I am a loyal servant and nothing has changed.

“I took a personal vow to support my governor and you can see my Catholic people are here. When I took a vow with God, nothing can change it and I wish that the relationship that we had will come back in the next few days and weeks.

“I am missing my governor and by the grace of God, He will touch the governor’s heart and touch all of us and even those that are between us.

“I mean well. If there is any mistake I have made as human, it is not out of wickedness because I know I’m not wicked. I have a very clean heart.

“I want to use this medium to appeal to Mr. Governor that if there is any thing I don’t know that I have done, please forgive me so that we can develop our state together.

“My Governor, I’m sorry and I need us to work together.”

Poland Halts Supply Of Weapons To Ukraine Over Grain Deal

0

Polish authorities have stopped the shipment of weapons to Ukraine, instead focusing on arming itself instead, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said Wednesday, arising from a dispute over the exports of Kyiv’s agricultural produce.

“We are no longer transferring weapons to Ukraine, because we are now arming Poland with more modern weapons,” Morawiecki said in an appearance on Polish television channel Polsat, according to European Pravda. “If you don’t want to be on the defensive, you have to have something to defend yourself with,” he added, insisting, though, that the move wouldn’t endanger Ukraine’s security.

Morawiecki’s comments came as tensions escalated between Kyiv and the EU over the past week, after the European Commission moved to allow Ukrainian grain sales across the bloc, to end restrictions on grain imports which five eastern EU countries originally sought to protect their farmers from competition.

Poland, Hungary and Slovakia responded to the Commission’s move by imposing unilateral bans on Ukrainian grain imports, in apparent violation of the EU’s internal market rules.

Kyiv struck back by filing lawsuits against the three countries at the World Trade Organization.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Tuesday told the U.N. General Assembly in New York: “It is alarming to see how some in Europe, some of our friends in Europe, play out solidarity in a political theater — making a thriller from the grain. They may seem to play their own role but in fact they are helping set the stage to a Moscow actor.”

While Zelenskyy didn’t specifically mention Poland, Warsaw summoned Kyiv’s ambassador to the foreign ministry in response.

Morawiecki also delivered a “warning” to “Ukraine’s authorities,” earlier telling Polsat, “if they are to escalate the conflict like that, we will add additional products to the ban on imports into Poland. Ukrainian authorities do not understand the degree to which Poland’s farming industry has been destabilized.”

The statement said, “His lifeless body was discovered three days later, on Wednesday 20th September 2023 in a soakaway behind his house.”

It said the stench of his decomposing body attracted pupils and teachers from a nearby Islamia School who subsequently raised alarm.

“We suspect that the death of Hamisu is a clear act of intimidation designed to force journalists into self-censorship and eventually silence them. Journalists should not be made to work with fear that they could be targeted for their work,” the statement observed.

The union called on the authorities to investigate the incident, credibly establish the facts, and ensure accountability for those who carried out the dastardly act. Journalists need safety guarantees so that they can work freely and safely.

BBNaija: Angel Writes Love Letter To Cheer Up Soma

Apparently, Soma was feeling down for undisclosed reasons, which Angel had noticed during the course of the daily wagers. In an attempt to make things a lot lighter, Angel wrote him a pretty long love letter, declaring that she loved him with the words, “I love you”.

They shared a warm embrace as Soma appreciated the kind gesture, which led to Angel further asking if there was any other thing she could do to help the situation. They continued on with the rest of the night together as a normal couple in the house.

Venita was present during the presentation of the love letter as she commended Angel’s vulnerability and implored Soma to take care of her.

The love letter seems quite interesting considering the picnic-style dinner they had last week, alongside their given tradition of eating together every day on BBNaija All Stars.

The week didn’t start off in either their favour considering Angel’s loss during the Head of House game and both of them being nominated for possible eviction this week. Angel even contemplated a voluntary exit from BBNaija All Starsas she felt overwhelmed with the reality of her and Soma battling for the last spot for the finalist.

Many are eager to see if this flourishes into the next Bam-Bam and Teddy-A story or if it sinks outside of the BBNaija All Stars house.
