What I Told Governor Ikpeazu I Will Do To Aba, Port Harcourt, If Elected President - Peter Obi Reveals

Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, who spoke on Saturday at the Mata Dei Catholic Cathedral in Umuahia during the awarding of scholarships by the Alex Otti Foundation, stated that he had previously explained to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu how Aba, the economic hub of Abia, would be transformed to join Port Harcourt.

“I told Ikpeazu today that if I am elected president, Aba will merge with Port Harcourt and become one metropolis within two years.”

“We can produce and export the same items that are manufactured abroad.” We must compete with the rest of the world.

“The Aba footwear must be exported.” We only need government assistance to export it so that we may make a life.”

Obi also announced that the time had come for patriotic Nigerians to join the ongoing efforts to rescue the country from political hijackers and reconstruct it.

He stated that the high poverty rate in Nigeria is due to the country’s status as a consumer rather than a producer.

Obi stated that Nigeria is richly endowed with a smart and willing youth population but that visionless leaders have stifled the nation’s development.

The young people in this country are full of energy and potential, but the elderly are unwilling to give them space. So, we must provide a space for the young. We must offer possibilities for the impoverished to earn a living in this country.

We cannot continue in this manner! is not our nation! A nation where bread cannot be purchased is not our nation. Our nation needs to be productive. We must reclaim our nation and eradicate poverty! ”

There is excessive waste throughout the system.

People are owed their salaries and pensions, but those responsible are living like celebrities. It’s unjust!

We must make a difference in 2023. “We must reclaim and rebuild our nation”.

He stated that there would be a new Nigeria in which every region would be extremely proud and pleased to be a part of the country, as development would be evenly spread.

Africa, according to Obi, will feel the effects of the huge development that will explode in every region of the country under his watch.

Aleiro also denied being the mastermind of killing of over 100 people in Kadisau village in Faskari local government area of Katsina state.

He said he did not know the person responsible for the attack, adding, “Please go and ask the village head of Kadisau; it was a reprisal attack, I wasn’t involved in it; I was just linked to it”.

When news broke that he was to be conferred with a title, many protested against it, but the turbaning ceremony held hours after the emirate announced the suspension of the process.

No fewer than 104 inmates of the three custodial centres in Enugu State have been granted bail by Chief Judge, Justice Raymond Ozoemena.

The CJ, who was on a jail delivery exercise at the weekend, also discharged and acquitted 32 inmates from jail.

Ozoemena further released three juveniles brought to the Enugu Custodial Centre on Friday.

The CJ said that the exercise was a sacred duty to ensure that “the rights of every citizen are not infringed upon”.

According to him, the jail delivery, which have 17 courts sitting, have ensured that every inmate would be accorded the constitutionally guaranteed right of fair hearing.

This exercise has been carried out over the years by the Chief Judge and assisted by the Honourable Judges of the High Court in this sacred duty.

“I wish to thank the correctional centre and other stakeholders for their painstaking efforts to ensure that today’s exercise is hitch free.

“Permit me to also thank His Excellency, Dr Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, for providing the financial support to enable us carry out this exercise,” he said.

Speaking, Controller of Corrections in Enugu State, Mr Nicholas Obiako, said that the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) under the leadership of Controller-General, Mr Haliru Nababa, was poised to provide opportunity for inmates to develop their capacities.

The service has provided educational programmes up to university level and functional workshops; these programmes can only be realised if the inmates are reintegrated through exercise like this where their cases are fast tracked,” Obiako said.

He said that the jail delivery was an important tool for yard management as it was a ray of light which inmates look forward to gain their freedom, as a behavioural guide while in custody.

“I am hopeful that this exercise under your lordship will lead to the release of deserving inmates which will help stabilise the custodial centres.

“Inmates from Nsukka and Oji-River Custodial Centres are all here for the cases to be heard and reviewed,” he said.

Deputy Controller of Corrections in-charge of Enugu Custodial Centre, Mr Sunday Usifo, thanked the chief judge for the successful exercise as well as the unprecedented number of inmates discharged and bailed.

We sincerely appreciate you and the judiciary under your jurisdiction for this noble achievement today because this has rekindled hope in our inmates.

“It will further strengthen the adage that ‘the judiciary is the last hope of the common man’,” Usifo said.

Subject Yourself To One Hour Interview Let’s See If You’ll Be Articulate, Atiku Fires Back At Tinubu

Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar

Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 elections, Atiku Abubakar, has challenged the standard bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, to an hour-long Television interview.

Reacting to the allegation of Tinubu Campaign Organisation that he was not prepared to lead the country because of some of the issues discussed during his last Television interview, the former vice president dared Tinubu to take up the challenge.

“‘We would like to challenge Bola Tinubu to subject himself to an hour long interview, like the Waziri did, and if he is able to be as articulate and mentally present as our candidate, then he can talk. Until then, we will only want to remind him and his yes men that they are not in a position to point fingers when they have not sat on the hot seat,” Atiku said in a statement which Paul Ibe, his Media Adviser, issued on his behalf.

Ibe added that the former vice president was “amused to read the knee jerk response from the Tinubu Campaign Organisation to the wave making interview granted by Atiku Abubakar”.

He said the Tinubu campaign “exposed its gross desperation and vacuousness by citing the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) 1999, to declare Waziri Atiku Abubakar’s stance on engaging in a side business while he was a young custom officer as a breach of the law. It is pertinent to educate the Tinubu campaign organisation that Nigeria is not under a military regime and our Constitutions are not retroactive in nature.”

“Atiku Abubakar has earned Masters degree from Anglia Ruskin University. We challenge any of the present Presidential candidates to present an equal or higher degree. Moreover, his university attendance is a matter of verified record. Can we say the same about some other persons?”
