In a groundbreaking move, the Ohafia Traditional Rulers Council (Nde Eze Ohafia) has launched a comprehensive economic development package aimed at transforming Ohafia Local Government Area (LGA) into a hub of economic growth and development.

The package includes a range of projects designed to unlock the economic potential of the region and make it a modern architectural city like Dubai.

At the heart of the package is the design of a geographical map for the city of Ohafia, which will serve as a guide for visitors and tourists. This initiative is expected to boost tourism in the area and create new economic opportunities for the local population.

In addition, the council has invited foreign and local investors to explore the Uduma River for hydroelectricity, rice cultivation, and aquatic life exploitation. This project has the potential to generate significant revenue and create jobs for the local community.

The Quinquennium Conference, held at the palace of Eze Ojike on Saturday 18th May 2024, brought together traditional rulers, investors, and experts to brainstorm ways to transform Ohafia and neighboring towns into a modern architectural city like Dubai. The conference, which holds every five years, aims to enable Nde Eze Ohafia to develop diverse ways of making Ohafia Clan and Ohafia LGA economically and socially vibrant.

Other projects included in the package are:

  • A huge business model to promote entrepreneurship and innovation
  • Setting up of Ohafia Diaspora Board to engage with the diaspora community
  • Registration of village/town unions to promote community development
  • Setting up of a centre for the study of Ohafia culture to preserve cultural heritage
  • Building of regional markets to promote trade and commerce
  • Multimillion medical consortiums to improve healthcare services
  • Exploitation of natural raw materials such as limestone to promote industrial development
  • Building a garment industry using plantain leaves to promote sustainable development

Investors from Thailand and local investors have expressed interest in the projects, including rice cultivation using drone technology. The Thailand Embassy in Nigeria is willing to partner with the Ohafia monarchs to ensure rice production, which is expected to boost food security in the region.

Experts, including Prof I. U. Kalu and Engr Odo Ijere, emphasized the need for traditional rulers to explore and establish projects that will bring immense economic value to their communities. They praised the Ohafia Traditional Rulers Council for taking the initiative to develop the economic potential of the region.

The conference attracted many dignitaries from Ohafia and beyond, including HRH Eze Dr Ezera Uduma Ezera and HRH Eze Ukoha Kalu Ukoha, and lots of others.

The event was hailed as a success and a major step forward in the development of Ohafia LGA.

With this comprehensive economic development package, Ohafia is poised to become a model for economic growth and development in Nigeria, and the Ohafia Traditional Rulers Council is leading the way.
