Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has been named the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Men’s Player of the Year for the third time, following a sensational season that saw him lead Liverpool to a historic 20th English top-flight title.
Salah secured the award after recording 28 goals and 18 assists in the Premier League, breaking the record for most goal involvements in a 38-game Premier League campaign.
“It’s a huge honour to receive this award again. I always try to give my best for Liverpool, and I’m proud of what we achieved this season,” Salah said after receiving the award.
The Egypt international claimed an overwhelming 90 per cent of the FWA vote, the largest winning margin in the award’s history this century.
Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk finished second in the voting, with Alexander Isak of Newcastle United in third and Arsenal’s Declan Rice in fourth.
This marks Salah’s third FWA win, having previously claimed the accolade in 2017–18 and 2021–22, placing him alongside Thierry Henry as the only players to win the award three times.
Salah, 32, also recently ended speculation about his future by signing a new two-year deal with Liverpool, keeping him at Anfield until 2027.
“I’m happy to continue this journey. There’s more to win, and we’re just getting started,” he said, following news of his contract extension.
His commitment boosts Liverpool’s chances of surpassing Manchester United with a record 21st league title next season.
On the women’s side, Alessia Russo won the FWA Women’s Player of the Year award, becoming the second Arsenal player to do so. She edged out Khadija Shaw, last year’s winner, to claim the honour.
