Hon. Amobi Ogah, the Labour Party lawmaker representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi federal constituency in the House of Representatives, has provided further insight into his proposed bill for the creation of Etiti State. The new state aims to bring the Southeast geo-political zone on par with other zones.

In an exclusive interview with ABN TV in Abuja, Rep Ogah explained that the proposed state will benefit all five existing states in the zone, unlike other proposals that would favor a particular state. He noted that the proposal has already gained the support of most House of Representatives members from the South East.

Rep Ogah argued that the creation of an additional state for the Southeast is about equality, and it makes sense that every state in the zone should benefit from it. He explained that each state will donate at least two Local Government Areas to the proposed Etiti State, ensuring that no state is left behind.

He appealed to Ndigbo people both at home and abroad to put aside personal interests and unite for the actualization of Etiti State, which he believes is in the best interest of the entire South East region.

”However you look at it, Etiti State makes more sense because each state in the South East will donate at least two Local Government Areas to it. Isuikwuato and Umunneochi will come from Abia; Okigwe and Onuimo LGAs from Imo; Orumba North and Orumba South from Anambra; Ivo and Ohozara LGAs from Ebonyi; and Oji River, Awgu and Aninri from Enugu State. It cuts across all the existing five states so that no state is shortchanged”.

The lawmaker, appealed to Ndigbo home and abroad, to jettison their personal gains and unite for the actualization of Etiti State, which he said, ”is in the interest of the entire South East”.
