The All Progressives Congress (APC) has recorded a major political boost in Umuimenyi/Nkpa Ward, Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, following the defection of more than 500 members of the L&B Foundation from the Labour Party (LP) and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) to the ruling party.

The mass defection took place during the Morning Tea with Widows programme organized by the Mazi Ekweronu Foundation, an event that also doubled as a Town Hall Meeting attended by community members, political stakeholders, and residents of the area.
The programme, hosted by the Founder of the Mazi Ekweronu Foundation, Engr. Nnadozie Ekweronu, provided participants with an opportunity to discuss developmental projects facilitated by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, across Bende Federal Constituency.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, the Founder of the L&B Foundation, Canadian-based businessman Okechukwu Innocent Uchechukwu, alongside the Foundation’s Secretary, Mr. Okorie Prince Samuel, and Chairman, Mr. Best Samuel, said their decision to join the APC was motivated by what they described as the remarkable developmental strides of the Deputy Speaker, particularly in Umuimenyi/Nkpa Ward.
According to the group, the numerous infrastructure projects and people-centred initiatives facilitated by Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu convinced them that the APC remains the most credible platform for sustainable development in the constituency.
The defectors also commended Engr. Nnadozie Ekweronu for his commitment to grassroots mobilization and community development, describing him as a dedicated party loyalist whose unwavering support for the APC and the Deputy Speaker inspired their decision to defect.
They pledged their total loyalty to the APC and promised to work with Engr. Ekweronu and other party leaders to ensure the party records overwhelming victories in future elections.

Political observers view the development as a significant gain for the APC in Umuimenyi/Nkpa Ward, strengthening the party’s grassroots structure and underscoring growing confidence in the leadership of Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu and the mobilization efforts of Engr. Nnadozie Ekweronu across Bende Federal Constituency.
