The newly deployed Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police, Zone 9 Umuahia, AIG Umar Mamman Sanda will assume duty in his new office tomorrow, Wednesday, April 26, ABN TV reports.

He replaces AIG Isaac Olutayo Akinmoyede.

Before his deployment, Umar Sanda was the Bauchi State Commissioner Of Police.

Umar Sanda was born on 13 August 1964 in Maiduguri Borno State but hails from Michika Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

As a pioneer EFCC officer seconded from the Nigeria Police Force, he contributed immensely to the setting up and nurturing of the EFCC, both Administratively and Operationally while on the frontlines, he has successfully investigated and prosecuted several high profiles cases involving Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs) including the celebrated Brazilian Bank Fraud.

AIG Umar Sanda also participated and sometimes headed investigations of high-profile cases like the Halliburton and Siemens while hisvstint also included high profile investigation of Heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

He was also in the Office of the National Security Adviser for three years and then Deputy Commissioner of Police, Administration, Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja, before proceeding to the National Defence College, Abuja.

After obtaining his first school leaving certificate in Bulabulin Primary School Maiduguri, the young Umar Sanda proceeded to Teachers College, Potiskun in 1981 where he bagged a Grade II Teachers Certificate.

He then enrolled into the University of Maiduguri to study Law graduating in 1987 with an LLB (Hons), from there, he moved to the Nigerian Law School Lagos where he obtained his Barrister at Law (BL).

Upon completion of his mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in 1989, he enlisted into the Nigerian Police Force in 1990, kicking off his professional career at the Kwara State Command as Officer on Training Attachment in 1991 to 1992 at ‘A’ Divisional Police Headquarters, Ilorin.

Upon completion of his experience attachment, he was deployed to Yobe State Command as Head Legal Department in 1992-1995 and From 1995-2001 he served in Lagos as an investigator at the Police Special Fraud Unit office.

Soon after, he was nominated for Peacekeeping in the United Nations peacekeeping mission in East Timor, member of Nigeria Police Contingent 2001-2002 while from 2002 to 2003 he served as Divisional Police Officer Dunukofia Anambra State Command.

He expanded his career where between 2003 to 2007 he served in the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC Lagos as Pioneer Head General of Investigation Unit.

Between 2007 to 2009 he served as Head Economic Governance Unit at Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Headquarters Abuja and then by 2010 to 2012, the “Trainer” has served in Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Abuja as AC X squad.

For over decade, AIG Umar Sanda, a man with strong Investigative analytical and interpersonal capabilities left various track records through his career from where he was then redeployed to Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC Academy Abuja in 2013 as Deputy Commandant.

Between 2013 to 2016, the gallant intelligent police officer served at Counter Terrorism Department, office of the National Security Adviser Abuja, and then moved to serve as Commissioner of Police Administration Force Criminal Intelligent and Investigation Department (FCIID) until his now very recent posting to Bauchi as 43rdCommissioner of Police Bauchi State Command.

Other courses and training attended by AIG Umar Mamman Sanda include Advance Detective Course at Police Staff College Jos, Senior Advance Detective Course London United Kingdom, Anti-Money Laundering Course Cyprus, and Citizenship and Leadership Training Shere Hills Jos, Plateau State.
