Mascot, a younger brother of Orji Kalu, a former governor of the state and Chief Whip of the Senate is believed to enjoy overwhelming support among the people of his Abia North region.

He runs a campaign targeted at uniting Abians, which he said is the bane of development in the state.

He is expected to test his popularity at the polls with the likes of Uche Ikonne, the ruling PDP’s governorship candidate, Alex Otti of the Labour Party, and APGA and APC which still grapple with fragmentation and faction, weakening their chances to dislodge the PDP which has been in power since 1999.

Though it’s not certain how far the prayer of the man can take Mascot, it speaks to his grassroots popularity in the 17 local governments that make up Abia state.
