His Eminence, Rev. Dr Samuel Chukwuemeka Kanu Uche JP, Prelate Methodist Church Nigeria has said that security issues in the country can be fixed in six months, if the nation’s leadership should remove their “eyes from dirty wealth”, ABN TV reports.
Uche who addressed newsmen in David Baxter conference hall of Vision Africa Radio, Umuahia, Abia State, insisted that the security agencies know the undesirable elements unleashing mayhem on the citizens and could be wiped out completely by the security agencies in a day.
Decrying the current insecurity in the country, Uche also expressed disappointment that despite the acquisition of Tucano Jets by the Federal government, killings and kidnappings of citizens have continued unabated.
He also condemned the invasion of Kuje prison at Abuja where hardened criminals were set free and wondered why even the hometown of President Muhamadu Buhari had been rocked by insecurity.
He tasked the presidency to restore security in the country before leaving office in 2023.
Uche reminded eligible Nigerians that their vote is their power and that power begins with voter registration and to get involved in formal political processes and have a say in formulating today’s and tomorrow’s politics and policies, the first critical step is to get a voter’s card that enables them to become participants, decision-makers, and influencers as criticizing from the side-lines or on social media would not make much difference.
He, therefore, advised Abians and Nigerian electorate to critically assess and analyze the antecedents and past records of the candidates from various political parties, and examine their policy documents, visions, missions, and promises before casting their votes or handing over their mandate to them.
Uche also pointed out that the nation is already faced with a myriad of challenges; from insecurity, high unemployment rate, lack of electricity, abject poverty, falling standard of education, and currently needs peace and stability, good governance, and leadership, adding further that the general elections in 2023 is another opportunity for Nigerians to change “our destiny”, by voting wisely for the unity, progress, and stability in Nigeria and by doing so it will eliminate the pains the citizens are passing through presently.
The Methodist Prelate strongly believes that the ultimate choice is going to be made by Nigerians, as Nigerians will determine who becomes what in the 2023 general elections.
He appreciated the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral
Commission (INEC), Prof Mahmood Yakubu, who through his activities is insisting that Nigerians will determine who becomes their leaders in the 2023 general elections, as the Commission would continue to work in line with provisions of the Electoral Act 2022 as amended to uphold the choice made by Nigerians.
Uche advised the Federal Government to listen to the United Nations, UN Human Rights Council Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, asking them to, “immediate release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu unconditionally” and pay him adequate compensation for the arbitrary violation of his fundamental human rights, to bring more good than harm to Nigeria.
He advised that as a social crusader, the IPOB leader and the likes could be judiciously used to achieve positive things in the country.
The Prelate who recalled his 46 years in the vineyard of God, noted that he has spent nine years as the Methodist Prelate, during which he superintended the planting of 252 new churches. He added that within the period, the church recorded rapid infrastructural development.
He expressed appreciation to leaders and members of the Church for their support for him, promising that a smooth transition of leadership in the Methodist Church would take place under his supervision.
Prelate Uche also revealed that he was the first Igbo man to be elected as a Prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria in the history of the church.
