The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, Hon. Ikenna Nicholas Ukwa, has been conferred with the chieftaincy title of “Ike-Agwu 1 of Ohafor Autonomous Community.”
The honour was bestowed on Ukwa on Saturday during the 2026 New Yam Festival of Ohafor Ezema in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State.
The annual cultural celebration brought together indigenes, traditional rulers, community leaders, political stakeholders, friends and well-wishers to celebrate the New Yam Festival and the rich cultural heritage of the people.
Ohafor Ezema comprises Asaga, Amuke, Ndi Ibe, Eziafor and Ndi Orieke Ohafia communities, whose people participated in the colourful celebration.
The conferment of the Ike-Agwu 1 of Ohafor title formed one of the highlights of the festival, as Ukwa was formally recognised by the traditional institution of the autonomous community.
The chieftaincy honour adds to Ukwa’s growing involvement in community and traditional activities across the Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency.
Ukwa, who is contesting for the Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency seat on the platform of the APC, expressed appreciation to the traditional rulers, elders and people of Ohafor for the honour bestowed on him.
He described the recognition as significant and pledged to continue supporting initiatives aimed at promoting the development, unity and cultural heritage of communities across the constituency.
The 2026 New Yam Festival also provided an opportunity for the people of Ohafor Ezema to celebrate their traditions, strengthen communal bonds and give thanks for the year’s harvest.
