The media office of Mayor Lucky Obinwa Igbokwe (Don Lulu) has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that he has stepped down from the race for the Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency seat ahead of the forthcoming party primaries.

In a press release issued by his supporters and media team, the reports were described as false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt by political opponents to create confusion and tension within the constituency.

The statement categorically stated that Mayor Igbokwe, popularly known as Don Lulu, remains fully in the contest and has neither withdrawn from the race nor entered into any agreement to abandon his aspiration.

According to the statement, the APC aspirant remains committed to offering quality representation, inclusive leadership, and people-oriented service to the people of the federal constituency.

The media office also reacted to ongoing debates surrounding zoning and equity within the constituency, stressing that no official position of the party has declared the House of Representatives seat exclusively zoned to Umuahia North or micro-zoned to Ohuhu Clan as being speculated in some quarters.

The statement noted that political positions within the constituency have historically rotated among different blocs without conflict or hostility.

It further argued that when key political offices such as the governorship position and the Abia Central Senatorial seat went to Ibeku, there were no major objections or tensions from other blocs.

“Political engagement should remain democratic, peaceful, and people-driven,” the statement added.

The media office accused unnamed individuals of spreading false information about Mayor Igbokwe’s alleged withdrawal as part of a strategy aimed at misleading supporters and influencing public perception ahead of the APC primaries.

Supporters, delegates, party faithful, and members of the public were therefore urged to disregard the rumours and remain focused on issue-based politics rather than misinformation and propaganda.

The development comes amid rising political tension within the Abia APC over the contest for the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency seat, with different political blocs intensifying consultations and mobilization ahead of the party primaries.
