The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has emerged unopposed as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Bende Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Kalu’s emergence followed a unanimous affirmation by registered APC members across the 13 electoral wards that make up Bende Federal Constituency during the party’s primary exercise held on Saturday.
The wards include Alayi, Bende, Ezeukwu, Igbere, Item, Itumbuzo, Nkpa, Ntalakwu, Ozuitem, Ugwueke, Umu-Imenyi, Umuhu-Ezechi and Uzuakoli.
The primary exercise, which commenced in the afternoon across the various ward offices, witnessed massive turnout of party members, stakeholders and supporters who participated in the affirmation process.
Party stakeholders, ward executives and delegates commended the Deputy Speaker for what they described as outstanding leadership, effective legislative representation and commitment to grassroots development since assuming office.
According to them, Kalu’s unopposed emergence reflects the overwhelming confidence and trust reposed in him by APC members and constituents across the federal constituency.
They noted that his tenure has brought several impactful projects, strengthened unity within the APC structure and enhanced the visibility and voice of Bende Federal Constituency at the national level through his position in the House of Representatives.
Speaking shortly after the affirmation of his candidacy, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu expressed appreciation to party faithful, community leaders, youths, women groups and constituents for their continued support and confidence in his leadership.
The Deputy Speaker assured the people of his unwavering commitment to attracting more democratic dividends to the constituency, promoting inclusive governance and advancing policies that would improve the welfare and economic opportunities of the people.
Kalu further pledged to continue providing quality representation and sustaining developmental initiatives aimed at uplifting communities across Bende Federal Constituency.
The development further strengthens the Deputy Speaker’s political standing within the APC as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
