The member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, Rep. Sam Onuigbo has decried the challenges of road infrastructure in Ikwuano, assuring that total reconstruction of the Umuahia-Ikwuano- Ikot Ekpene federal road remains his ultimate priority.

“I have been working tirelessly to ensure the total reconstruction of the Umuahia-Ikwuano- Ikot Ekpene federal road. I am optimistic that the ongoing reconstruction will be completed as soon as possible especially now that the hindrance of funding has been addressed,” the lawmaker said at the day-1 of Ikwuano Socio-Economic Summit 2023.

He reiterated the economic importance of the road and vowed to ensure to its completion and not abandoned.

Rep. Onuigbo who is also the APC candidate for Abia Central Senatorial District in the upcoming election said no society can develop in the absence of good road network to lubricate the economy.

He expressed happiness that electricity and water problems have been fixed to a large extent in various communities in Ikwuano local government but insists that road networks has continued to be a major challenge facing the people.

He said, “We have been able to complete electricity and water projects in some communities in Ikwuano over the years. The issue of road has however been one of our biggest problems in Ikwuano.”

The House of Representatives member also revealed that he has submitted a proposal for the creation of another link road to Akwa Ibom and Cross River through Ikwuano which is the Okwe- Obuohia -Nkari federal road.

The design for the construction of this has been completed by the Niger Delta ministry. It is my hope that they will award it soon as this road has the potential to reduce the burden on the Umuahia-Ikwuano-Ikot Ekpene federal road while also providing us with a shorter alternative to Akwa Ibom and Calabar,” Onuigbo added.
