A former member of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Emeka Atuma has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Abia Central Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections, defeating former Senator Nkechi Nwogu and former federal lawmaker, Sam Onuigbo, at the party’s primary election held on Monday.
Atuma secured victory after polling a total of 36,935 votes across the six local government areas that make up the senatorial district, including Umuahia North, Umuahia South, Ikwuano, Osisioma, Isiala Ngwa North, and Isiala Ngwa South.
Former Senator representing Abia Central and ex-member of the House of Representatives, Senator Nkechi Nwogu, came second with 11,451 votes, while former two-time House of Representatives member for Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, Sam Onuigbo, polled 5,833 votes.
The result of the primary election was officially announced in Umuahia by the APC Collation Officer, Thomas Nkoro.
Meanwhile, the APC Abia State chapter has informed all aspirants who participated in the House of Representatives primary elections conducted across the state that the National Assembly Primaries Appeal Committee has commenced sitting to receive and review complaints arising from the exercise.
The party advised aspirants dissatisfied or aggrieved with any aspect of the primaries to formally submit their petitions and complaints to the appeal committee for consideration.
According to the party, the Abia State Appeal Committee is chaired by Chris Dajan, while Martha Moses, Obioma Madukwe, and Uzoma Ogu will serve as members of the committee.
The development comes amid ongoing political realignments and preparations by political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections in Abia State and across the country.
