Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has confirmed that a crucial meeting of Nigeria’s opposition coalition took place in Abuja on Tuesday night.
El-Rufai made the revelation while speaking at the Arewa TechFest event held in Katsina on Wednesday.
“Yesterday at 8 PM, there was a very important meeting of the coalition we’re putting together to ensure that President Tinubu goes back to Lagos,” El-Rufai said.
The former governor, however, commended Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, noting that he would be retained in the next administration due to his performance.
“Though we will still keep Bosun Tijani, we will still keep the minister because he is doing good work,” he added.
Sources confirmed that the meeting, which held on Tuesday night and lasted into the early hours of Wednesday, sealed the decision.
“They have adopted the African Democratic Congress as the coalition party. All of them—Atiku, Obi, El-Rufai—are working together,” a source familiar with the meeting disclosed.
Committees have reportedly been formed to finalize plans ahead of a formal unveiling of the coalition.
The new political alliance is expected to pose a major challenge to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
