Erling Haaland might win the Ballon d’Or if Manchester City wins the Champions League, according to former Dutch footballer Ruud Gullit.
Players from Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi would compete with Haaland for the prize.
But Gullit thinks the Norwegian striker’s chances will be improved if Pep Guardiola leads City to their first European championship.
“It’s very interesting – if Haaland wins the Champions League this year with Manchester City – then he could win the Ballon d’Or.”
“As a footballer, you can’t compare him to anyone. There’s always one freak of nature that comes out.”
“We had that with Lionel Messi. He was out of the ordinary, too. But Haaland…how he scores is fantastic,” Gullit said ahead of this week’s prestigious Laureus awards in Paris.
