Why We Can Not Act On Mace-snatching Report – Senate

0

The Senate has declared that it cannot act on the report which allegedly linked the Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, to the snatching of the mace from the red chamber in 2018.

A group of people had invaded the Senate Chamber on April 18, 2018 and stole the symbol of legislature in the full glare of the lawmakers.

The leadership of the 8th National Assembly set up a joint panel of the two chambers led by Senator Bala Ibn Na’Allah (Senate) and Betty Apiafi (House of Representatives) to investigate the incident.

The report could not be considered by the 8th National Assembly because of a suit instituted against the Senate by Omo-Agege, to prevent his colleagues from suspending him.

Indications that the report might not see the light of the day emerged on Saturday when the Senate spokesperson, Godiya Akwashiki, declared in an interview that the 9th Senate would not act on the report.

Akwashiki explained that any unresolved issue in the life of the 8th Senate could no longer be revisited by the 9th Senate.

He said, “As far as I am concerned, anything that affects the life of the 8th National Assembly, any uncompleted report has expired with the life of the last Assembly.

“If it is a bill that was passed but not assented to, or any other uncompleted bill, it has expired with the life of the 8th Assembly.

“As far as the 9th National Assembly is concerned, even if we want to enact a bill, we have to start afresh.

“Any unresolved issue in the 8th Assembly has gone forever. So, the implication is that the report of mace-snatching has gone with the 8th Senate.”

A group, Vanguard for Transparent Leadership and Democracy, had on Thursday, asked the Senate to ignore calls by some civil society groups who are demanding Omo-Agege’s resignation.

The National President of the group, Emmanuel Igbini, who made the appeal in a statement issued in Abuja, explained that there was no concrete evidence against Omo-Agege on the issue of mace-snatching.

0

Professor Francis Otunta, the Vice-Chancellor of the Michael Okpara University Of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) in Abia State, accused of sexual harassment has been cleared by the school authorities.

According to the school management, the female staff accused the VC because she was disciplined for travelling abroad and absconding from her duties without due authorization.

In a statement by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mrs. Jacinta Ogwo-Agu, the school authorities described the allegation as a product of frustration and vendetta.

Ogwo-Agu said investigations revealed that Professor Otunta “at no time or place harassed physically or sexually Doctor Patricia Mbah as he has no need to do so.”

The university insists that the Vice-Chancellor is ever ready to defend his innocence before any lawful and properly constituted body set up to investigate the allegation.

The school’s reaction comes three months after senior lecturer at the University of Lagos, Akoka, Dr. Boniface Igbeneghu, has been caught on tape making amorous advances at a ‘student’ seeking admission into the school.

Igbeneghu, who teaches in the Faculty of Arts, was caught after a reporter with the British Broadcasting Corporation posed as a prospective student of UNILAG.

The reporter had sought the help of the lecturer to gain admission.

A disheartening and heartbreaking video just hit the internet. This video shows some Nigerian soldiers drinking dirty water from an unclean stream.

From the video, many soldiers can be seen fetching and drinking water that doesn’t look good for human consumption, let alone soldiers fighting terrorism.

The fighters can be heard lamenting the terrible and distasteful state they found themselves. This is for sure an indictment on the authorities despite billions of Naira being allocated for soldiers welfare and to fight Boko haram.

The poster of the video compared the 5 star treatments given to BH members by the Federal Government to that of the Nigerian soldiers in battlefield. In his words “Boko haram members who are on rehabilitation eats, drinks, sleeps in a better condition than their victims in IDP camp and our soldiers in front line, how can rehabilitating and reinstating them back to the society solve the problem?”

A Catholic Priest preached to his congregation today that the witches and wizards who fly at night are small witches unlike the big ones which are found in the Government.

According to the priest, witches and wizards that fly at night and with broom or turn into birds in Nigeria, Christians have power over them and God have given authority over those but the ones in the Government, kill more and are responsible for thousands of death.

He says the witches and wizards in the government are the ones holding destinies of people as they have killed more that those “small ones” that are mostly feared.

Wish I had the power and resources to relocate this Priest to my Parish. Always Spot on and Practical in all his homilies. Chukwu gozie gi Padre! – @AKABOGUIKENNAH

Tbh, most catholics are like this Rv Fr. Very practical. Priests are called to a life of poverty, chastity & obedience. So they ordinarily shouldn’t own anything. There has to be more to spiritual calling than the personal enrichment we are used to seeing. You’re always welcome. – @DJINEE

D day all the Nigerian top churches begin to adopt dis preaching rather than preaching prosperity in d country dat kills people’s dreams maybe people would wake up. Dem need protect dis pastor – @itsOsiT

This was absolutely satisfying, GOD bless him wherever he is – @Aguiyi_II

Wish the popular pastors can be this brave. – @ChaseThaM0ney
