The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday said it cannot issue a Certificate of Return to the new Governor of Imo state, Sen. Hope Uzodinma because it has not been served with the order of the Supreme Court to that effect.

The Commission in a terse statement by the Chief Press Secretary to its Chairman, Mr Rotimi Oyekanmi however promised to do the needful once it received the enrolled order.

“Please be informed that the Commission is yet to be served with the enrolled order of the Supreme Court judgement, therefore, we cannot issue the Certificate of Return to the APC candidate yet. However, once the Commission receives the enrolled order, the CoR will be issued”, INEC stated.

The Supreme Court had on Tuesday sacked Hon. Emeka Ihedioha as governor of the state, and consequently went to affirm the election of Uzodinma in his stead.

In the lead judgement read by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, the apex court ruled that records before it proved that election results from 388 polling units during the election, were unlawfully excluded from the overall collated results that declared Ihedioha winner of the state governorship election.

The Youth Wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has congratulated Sen. Hope Uzodinma on his Supreme Court victory on Tuesday, saying that it is a `victory well deserved’.

It said that the Supreme Court had once again reassured the masses that the court remained the last hope of the common man.

Our correspondent, who visited the government house was told by some security officers that there was an order for them to restrict movement in and out of the Government House.

Thereafter, the security officers locked up the Government House.

The governor-elect of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, has said that his stolen mandate has been recovered by the Supreme Court.

Uzodinma, who spoke to our correspondent through his spokesperson, Declan Emelumba, shortly after the apex court declared him the duly elected governor of the state said that the court had demonstrated bravery.

The governor-elect accused the Peoples Democratic Party of not having good plans for the state.

He said, “The Supreme Court has declared Senator Hope Uzodinma as the duly elected governor of Imo State. The beautiful thing is that our stolen mandate has been recovered.

“The governor will arrive in Imo State on Wednesday and he will address the people of the state. He has better plans for the people of the state. He is experienced and the state is in for good things.”

The former Special Assistant on ICT to the former Imo State Governor, Hon Ik Ogbonna has applauded the Supreme Court victory of Senator Hope Uzodinma.

Mr Ogbonna, who is the Special Assistant to Senator Hope Uzodinma Campaign Organization said of all the governorship candidates that ran the election, Sen Uzodinma was the most prepared. He said the governor elect is humble, approachable, grounded and has Imo at heart.

According to Ogbonna, “Senator Uzodinma will see the entire Imo as his constituency, he will not be Governor for any zone or even party” he concluded.
