Adams, while urging all religious leaders to celebrate God for at least, three days, stated further that it is only God’s intervention that can save Nigeria from imminent collapse, adding that the idea of celebrating Eledumare festival for 21- days came as the group’s way of appreciating God for the grace to surmount all the challenges of life.

He expressed confidence in the struggle to actualize the dream of the foundation, especially, in promoting the cultural identity of Yoruba race across the southwest and in the diaspora.

The Yoruba generalissimo noted that the benefits of celebrating Eledumare festival is beyond the present moment, adding that whenever the group celebrates Eledumare, God will deposit mineral resources in the southwest for the future.

”As a group that is poised to promote the cultural identity of our race, we celebrate other deities across the southwest, it is no doubt that our efforts have been rewarded right from the outset, however, it is important for us to celebrate the most high God. The creator of heaven and earth”,

Iba Adams, however, blamed the present situation on the failures of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, saying the present hike in the prices of Premium Motor Spirit and diesel had a far-reaching effect on the economy.

“The suffering is becoming very unbearable. The present situation of the country needs God’s intervention. Unless God intervenes in the situation, Nigeria can never make any meaningful progress”,

On the festival, Adams insisted that Eledumare festival will go on for 21 days as the group’s little way to honour and appease the most high God.

“Our programmes for this year festival include prayer to almighty God, visits to Widows, Orphanage homes, Old People’s homes and Arts Gallery, Photo exhibitions, Soccer Beach, Yoruba Quiz competition, fashion show, Table tennis, Taekwondo, Ayo-Olopon competition, and Festival float that heralds the Grand finale in April”,

“All these activities would be held daily in the various locations. They are put together to celebrate God in the most amazing way”

He also spoke about the ability of the group to use cultural promotion as tool for the liberation of the race, insisting that any race that loses the culture loses everything.

“Culture is a potent tool for liberation therefore, we must continue to forge ahead in ensuring that we sustain our culture and traditions.

The Commissioner of Police in Abia State, CP Janet Agbede has applauded the state governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu for his support in the timely completion of a brand new mess for senior officers of the command.

This is even as she conferred Honorary Grand Patron of the Officers’ mess on the governor as well as Honorary Member on the Senator representing Abia South, Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe.

Speaking at the commissioning of the new building on Saturday in Umuahia, the Commissioner of Police said prior to her coming in the state, senior officers of the Force lived in dilapidated structure as mess which she said challenged her to commence the new befitting accommodation for them.

She said the new officers’ mess will be a place to entertain friends, centre for research on security issues, centre for workshop, seminar and discussions which she said will improve security strategy in the state and country at large, centre for recreation and relaxation and others.

While noting that the mess structure cost millions of Naira, she also expressed gratitude to God and the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, adding that the relative peace in Abia made the completion of the structure possible.

The CP also thanked the sister agencies, including the military, NSCDC, NIS, NCS, DSS for their support in fighting and controlling crime in the state.

She expressed optimism that the brand new mess for officers and men of the command will further motivate them in giving their best to ensure that the state is protected.

In his remarks, the representative of the IGP and the AIG in charge of Zone 13, Anambra, AIG Umar Muri applauded the Commissioner of Police in Abia, CP Agbede who is the first female Commissioner of Police since creation of the state for her efforts in making the project a reality.

The IGP said improvement of welfare of officers of the force remains a top priority under his leadership, adding that the new officers’ mess will minimise security risks for men of the command in view of the security situation in the state and country at large.

While noting that the structure will also provide shelter and rallying point for inter agency cooperation that will enhance synergy in tackling security concerns in Abia, the IGP thanked the state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu for his support and partnership with the police.

He reiterated his readiness to continue to adopt the community policing system to ensure that all Abians are safe at all times.

The Governor stated this yesterday at the new Ovom Mechanic Village when he met with the traders themselves and the mechanics, Onyebuchi Ememanka, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor said in a release on Saturday.

He made it clear that the movement was non negotiable adding that the days of allowing mechanic workshops and their activities to deface the Aba township has come to an end.

According to the statement, Governor Ikpeazu told the traders and mechanics that the reason why his administration has allowed them to continue to do business inside Aba town was because of his personal philosophy that he won’t push out any business person from where he does business without finding a good alternative for him as that is capable of distorting the economic base of several families in the State.

He pointed out that now that the new market is ready, government will enforce their relocation to the new market and will use every legitimate means, including the the use of force and arrest to do the needful.

The release added, “He said he invited them to come, see the new market for themselves and appreciate the seriousness and sincerity of his administration towards their welfare and the growth of their businesses, adding that our businessmen must key into the modern style of doing business in established clusters.

“According to the Governor, the presence of mechanics and spare parts dealers inside the main Aba town has several disadvantages including hampering effective waste management and environmental cleanliness, conversion of residential buildings into market stalls thereby distorting purpose clauses of buildings, destruction of public infrastructure, etc.

“He assured them that his administration will look into their concerns regarding the cost of the shops, assuring further that the first 100 traders to obtain the form and move to the new place will get palliatives from the government. He made it abundantly clear that from the day he returns to formally commission the market, it will become illegal for anyone to engage in such business inside Aba town.

“The Governor also told the audience that the issue of flooding around the area was alreasy receiving attention and directed the Commissioner for Works to ensure that the work is sped up. He also assured the host community that action around compensation and other related matters had long commenced.

“Speaking earlier, the Honorable Commissioner for Industries, Chief Mrs Uwaoma Olewengwa told the Governor that the market which is a Public Private Partnership is ready for occupation by the traders. She urged the traders to take advantage of the efforts by government to relocate as appropriate. She described the market as purpose built to cater for the needs of the traders and mechanics. The new market, according to her, has all that is required to make businesses flourish, including provision for banking services, eateries, etc.

“Also speaking, the Chief Executive of Total Value Limited, the Government Partners in the development of the market thanked the State Governor for their initiative to bring investors into the state and assured that the traders will become key stakeholders in the ownership and running of the market.

“Responding, the Chairman of the Aba Motor Spare Parts Dealers Association, Chief Onyekachukwu Udeaja thanked the administration of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for the new market which he described as standard for their business but requested the Governor to kindly intervene in the reduction of the unit cost of the shops to encourage the traders to move quickly and become owners of the shops and not just mere tenants.

“He thanked the Governors for the great works he is doing across the State and urged him to do more.

“Former Deputy Governor Eric Acho Nwakanma, Chief Okey Ahiwe and Elder Raymond Aliga accompanied the Governor on the visit while the Traditional Ruler of the Host Community, Eze Otete poured royal blessings on the project and urged the Governor to carry the Community along.”

Natasha Akpoti Reveals Why She Dumped SDP For PDP

The former governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party in the 2019 elections, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has explained why she moved over to the Peoples Democratic Party, laying emphasis on party structure.

The philanthropist turned politician, who officially defected to the PDP on Saturday, revealed to The PUNCH in a phone conversation, the reasons behind her defection.

Natasha hinged her action on the weak structure of her former party arguing that the SDP lacked such structure that was being pulled by the PDP.

“I’ve come to realise some mistakes in the past elections I held, which was the Senate and the Kogi Governorship election, 2019.

“I’ve realised that popularity alone does not help. The party structure helps a lot. From the result of the Senate Kogi Central in 2019, I, in SDP, had about 48,300 votes while the PDP sitting senator Ogembe, had 18,100. That means I defeated the sitting Senator, with over 30,000 votes, and then you begin to wonder what happened.

“Ordinarily, I would have had about 67,000 or 70,000 votes or much more. But I didn’t have strong Polling Unit agents. Even, Ogembe, the little he had, he was able to secure.

“Systemic organization goes a long way in helping any candidate,” She told The PUNCH.

Natasha noted that if she was going to contest again, she needed to do something about the issue of structure.

“So I asked myself, what I would do if I were to contest again,” she said.

Natasha noted how she had been the single person maintaining the SDP structure.

“It’s extremely difficult for a single person to maintain structures across the state.

“I was the most formidable person in SDP in the whole country. I was supporting the national; I was supporting many other states that were calling on me. I had to bear the burden of the entire Kogi state SDP,” she said.

“As at the time I contested, there weren’t more than 2,000 card-carrying members of the SDP, and you begin to ask where the 38,000 votes came from,” Natasha said.

She noted that it was because people from other political parties came out to vote for her, but they could not stand for her at the polling units to defend her votes.

When asked what her followers’ fates were upon her defection to another party, she said that she was still the same Natasha Akpoti.

According to her, I’m still the same Natasha, still carrying the same vision, with the same vigour and same character, just much better. I’m still counting on their support.

On March 5, the National Working Committee of the PDP led by the chairman, Dr Iyiorcha Ayu, were at the wedding of Natasha to High Chief Emmanuel Oritsejolomi Uduaghan in Kogi state, a move that was regarded as an effort to woo her to the PDP.

Natasha declined to speak on her forthcoming election until she had made her declaration.

We Escaped Because Our Abductors Were Heavily Drunk — Katsina Teenagers

Two Katsina female teenagers, Mubaraka Naziru and Amina Rabiu, who escaped from their abductors recently, have narrated their ordeal while in captivity.

Katsina is one of the north west states badly hit by banditry.

The situation has led to tens of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in Zamfara, Sokoto and Katsina states.

The two teenagers were abducted when bandits in their large number invaded Batsari in Katsina State one Wednesday, around 12am.

Katsina Post reported that Naziru and Rabiu escaped when their abductors drank to a stupor.

When the two teenagers were led to the bush by their abductors, they were told not to worry as they would be married off as soon as they were brought before the bandits’ kingpin.

Upon their arrival, the two girls were provided with bottled juice drinks and loaves of bread while the bandits drank themselves to a stupor.

“Upon realizing that they were unconscious, we decided to run away. We walked kilometers to a hill and we were lost in the bush,” the teenagers said.

The teenagers said they tiptoed out of the bandits’ den and found their way into the bush, even though they did not know where they were heading to.

According to them, they met some herders at the foot of a hill and they were directed to the nearby village, Muniya, in Safana Local Government Area, Katsina State.

It was at Muniya that they were offered help and taken back home.

85-Year-Old Man Found Dead Beside River In Ogun

An 85-year-old man, Jimoh Oladiran has been reportedly killed by some persons said to be his relatives, a father and his son in Ogun State.

Oladiran, a resident of Somorin Alagbonmeta in the Obantoko area of Abeokuta, Ogun State, was lured by his relatives, identified as Alfa Mufatiu and his son, Ibrahim Mufatiu, to Asipa village for an unknown event on Saturday 12th March 2022.

It was further gathered that in the evening, the children of the late old man became worried when their father did not return home from Asipa, a village located after Opeji, in Odeda Local Government Area of the state.

On Sunday, the children said they went to the village, but they did not see their father.

On enquiry, Mufatiu’s wife was said to have “lied” that the deceased had gone to a neighbouring village.

However, they later discovered their father’s dead body beside a small river, covered with a rusty roofing sheet.

They suspected that he must have been hit with a stick in the head as he bled to death.

Sulaiman Oladiran, the eldest son of the deceased, said: “My father told me around 10am on Saturday that he was going to Asipa with a man we have known as his relative, Alfa Mufa. He said they have a programme there. On Saturday night, we did not see him.

“I called our brother, who is the Baale of Asipa, Chief Kehinde Omirinde, and told him about it. He told me to wait until the next day before taking any steps to locate him.

“When we did not see him until 12pm on Sunday, I called the Baale again; he said we should not wait any longer. So, we went to Asipa.

“At Asipa, we met Ibrahim Mufa’s wife, who told us to calm down, saying our father went to the next village, that he would soon return. But with the way she was nervous, I suspected all was not well. So I told my two other brothers.

“We saw Ibrahim Mufa coming from the river. We asked him where our father was and he said we should be patient. Later he said we should handle him gently or kill him. We just insisted on seeing our father. He started running away.

“At this point, the villagers have come out with sticks and cutlasses to attack us. Two of us ran away, but one of us was seized by the villagers.

“As we were running to Abeokuta with our motorbike to call the police, we met operatives of OP-MESA at Opeji. We told them what happened and they escorted us back to the village.

“When we returned to the village, they had already beaten my brother, Kazeem to stupor. The OP-MESA men arrested Alfa Mufatiu and handed him over to the police at Bode Olude.

“The following day, the police accompanied us to Asipa and Alfa Mufa took us to where our father was killed by the river. We observed that he was hit with something on the head. We saw blood on the mat they said he slept on. At the riverside where his corpse was dumped, we saw that his head was wrapped with a cloth full of blood.

“We took his body on Monday. It was already decomposing. We want Nigerians to assist us. We seek justice.”

Confirming the incident, the Baale, Chief Omirinde, said it was the late Oladiran who told him to allocate land to the suspects, who were unknown to him.

The village head said he did not know the men, adding that was why he did not go for the event they planned to hold on Saturday.

His words: “These suspects, Alfa Mufatiu (father) and Ibrahim Mufatiu (son) were brought to me by this same Jimoh Oladiran, a maternal cousin to my own father.

“One day, they called me that they needed land for farming, I don’t know how they got my phone number. I said no land for them.

“Three days after, they brought the deceased to plead on their behalf and I said they would get the land if the whole family endorsed it.

“But they told me they wanted to have a feast in the village, I said no problem.

“On Thursday, March 10, Ibrahim Mufa called me that the event would hold on Saturday; he told me to be there. But that day, I didn’t go.

“Surprisingly, late Oladiran went for the feast and he didn’t tell me, I would have told him not to go. It was the children that came to me when they didn’t see him return home.

“It is so sad, they killed the man and threw his body near the river. I have captured Ibrahim Mufa myself at Elega market and we have taken him to Fadage police station at Bode Olude.”

When contacted, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, told our correspondent on Saturday that he would get details of the incident and revert.

He said Obasi was a very intelligent, creative and visionary professional that was committed to his convictions at all times.

Wabara prayed God to grant the soul of late Obasi repose, and his family the strength to bear the irreparable loss.

Hours after dumping his former party, the APC, the Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency 2019 aspirant, Chief Amobi Ogah has joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State.

In a letter of membership resignation addressed to his ward 8 chairman in Uturu, on the 17th March 2022, he said his resignation has become important following pressure from his supporters which he said he found justifiable.

Hours later, Chief Amobi Ogah was seen perfecting his membership of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state along with his group of supporters in Uturu, Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State.

The Ward 8 Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon Romanus Iroogaraya was present to accept Chief Amobi into the party with some of his excos.

He is expected to contest for Isuikwuato/Umunneochi federal constituency on the platform of PDP where he will slug it out with Hon. Nkeiru Onyejeocha who will in 2023 clock 16 years in the House of Representatives.

With the announcement of commencement of sale of nomination and expression of interest forms of the PDP for various elective positions, he will in coming days land the Wadata House of the PDP National Secretariat to obtain his forms in readiness for primaries and general elections.

The councilor representing the good people of ward 8, Onyegbule Godwin Oga was also present while Chief Amobi was being received into the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

As the 2023 governorship race gathers momentum, Coalition of All Abia Youths Stakeholders in alliance with over 110 socio-politcal groups under the aegis of “ITS YOUTH O’CLOCK MOVEMENT, have indicated readiness to purchase the N21m expression of interest and nomination forms for Mayor Lucky Igbokwe popularly known as Don Lulu to contest for number one office in Abia.

According to the groups, the future of Abia lies in Mayor Igbokwe’s hand, noting that he has capacity to rescue it from what it called current socio-economic quagmire and leadership travails.

They therefore indicated readiness to go ahead to purchase the forms of the PDP governorship contest if he indicates willingness to join in the race.

Hon Obinna Ndukwe Ibiam, who read the communique of the groups at the end of their enlarged executive committee meeting in Ugwunagbo LGA, Ibiam said, no zoning arrangements will deny Mayor Lucky Igbokwe, popularly known as Don Lulu the opportunity to lead the state.

The maiden assembly on the same subject in Ohafia and Ikwuano last month, stressed that events, became very neccessary as several appeals from various quarters centers on clamor for Abians to elect a young pragmatic, wildly accepted, prudent manager of human and capital resources.

The members of the coalition youth groups drawn from the academia, professional bodies, political stakeholders and youths, met, agreed and appealed to Mayor Lucky Igbokwe to heed their calls to come rescue Abia as his popularity, acceptability and PHILANTHROPIE cut across the aged, youths and the down-trodden in the state.

Barr Ibe Iroakazi, a chieftain of PDP in State, who chairs the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the event read their second communique to reporters, making a substantive resolve of the youths, for a Youth to take over power from Governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu.

He said: “They are 110 support groups with million followers in southeast, and all are calling on Mayor Lucky Igbokwe to come and contest.”

“While we await his decision we shall intensify our drive across the 17 LGA to raise partners and supporters for him. We shall equally continue the process of building structures in all the wards, to bring to reality our dream of Don Lulu for Governor 2023.

“We call on all our members from across the length and breadth of Abia and diaspora, to demonstrate to the party, their love and support for this patriot and billionaire political philanthropist.

“We call on Abians to stand solidly behind this tested, loyal and true apostle of leadership and ensure that a man of conscience like him who truly abhors corruption, succeeds the present Governor to continue where he stops.”

According to the communique, the Ugwunagbo declaration, which was sequel to the Ohafia and Ikwuano declaration on the Youths resolve for the vision of “IT’S YOUTH O’CLOCK MOVEMENT ” further agreed to “align with EKWEREMEKWE POLITICAL MOVEMENT” to mobilise funds to purchase the expression of interest and nomination forms for Mayor Lucky Igbokwe, in furtherance of our total commitment to the noble course of ensuring Don Lulu becomes Abia Governor from 2023.”

They also resolved to carry out a thorough appraisal of current political trends in different political party and INEC timetable and engage more prominent Abians, the Academia, Civil Society groups, state and national delegates of the parties, Professional bodies, Religious Leaders, Youths and Women Organisations, on the need to elect this competent and reliable Abian with a proven track record, integrity, transparency and honesty, in the person of Mayor Lucky Igbokwe as the next Governor of Abia State Nigeria, in order to realise the building of a new Abia, pursuant to the vision of our founding fathers.

Unknown gunmen early hours of Saturday bombed Umuguma Police station in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo state, with explosive devices.

They Used Dynamite, Police Say As Gunmen Destroy Vehicles, Buildings In Imo Police Station Attack (Photos, Video)

An eyewitness who spoke to ABN TV from the Umuguma area said the attackers came in three vehicles and 2 motorcycles.

He said more than 5 vehicles were destroyed by the explosives and the building was set ablaze by the unknown gunmen.

He shortly said: “These hoodlums drove in their convoy of three vehicles, two motorcycles after they had a gun battle with the officers and at the same time threw explosives to the building.

“The whole of the building was in inflame because of the explosive and the officers who were on duty got injured while trying to take cover from the unexpected attack.”

When Vanguard called the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Michael Abattam, he confirmed the incident and said that “The unknown gunmen used dynamite and they threw it on the building and it exploded. The PPRO added that he would give more details later on the attack.
