This comes as he also announced the commencement of distribution of the 5,000 tickets he earlier procured for fans through his Orji Uzor Kalu Foundation.

Kalu, Chief Whip of the Senate in a statement on Monday said despite the commencement of the distribution of the tickets in group, there is still more for fans which will be distributed at the stadium gate with effect from 3pm Tuesday.

The pillar of sports had earlier expressed optimism that Nigeria will defeat Ghana in the clash to put smile on the faces of teeming fans.

He said, “Ahead of Nigeria VS Ghana Match tomorrow, I am hopeful that enthusiastic Nigerians will be in the stadium to cheer up our Super Eagles .

“Even though Orji Uzor Kalu Foundation have been able to share a lot of tickets in groups, a great number of the tickets will also be given to fans by 3PM at the entrance gate of the stadium ( AREA 1 GATE )”

Nigeria had last week Friday in the first leg of the qualifying match in Kumasi held Ghana to a goalless draw amidst missed opportunities to trounce the Black Stars.

2023: APGA Commences Sale Nomination Forms, Fixes Dates For Screening Of Aspirants

0

The National Working Committee, NWC, of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, has flagged off process for 2023 general elections beginning with the sale of nomination and expression of interest forms slated to commence tomorrow, Tuesday March 29.

According to a statement issued by APGA, and made available to newsmen in Abuja, the sale and return of Expression of Interest & Nomination Forms will commence from March 29 and April 11, 2022 APGA National Secretariat, Abuja

It also announced that the screening of National Assembly prospective aspirants would hold between April 20 and 21, 2022, while the screening of Presidential and Governorship prospective aspirants – April 22 – 23, 2022.

The party also noted that female aspirants and aspirants living with disability shall pay only 50% of the fees stipulated above for both the Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms.

Meanwhile, the leadership of APGA has paid a glowing tribute to the immediate past Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willy Obiano for uncommon performance in eight years of his administration in the state.

This development was contained in the communique issued by the party at the end of it’s National Executive Committee, NEC, where it also condemned the unprofessional conduct of the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, when the former Governor was under it’s custody.

According to the communique, “The NEC commended former Governor Willie Obiano for a brilliant job done in Anambra State in the past 8 years of his meritorious service to the state.

“The NEC noted that former Governor Willie Obiano had rendered people-oriented service to the people of Anambra State, having left behind unprecedented number of legacy projects in the state, some of which included the building of an International Cargo/Passenger Airport of global acclaim, a 13,000-seater International Convention Center that is the largest in the entire country, and a Stadium of international rating.

“The NEC, therefore, condemned in strong terms the unprofessional treatment meted out to the former governor by the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

“The NEC is of the considered and firm view that given the constitutional presumption of innocence, suspects must be treated with respect and dignity until pronounced guilty by a Court of competent jurisdiction.

“Hence, the NEC urged EFCC to eschew media trial, conviction by propaganda and imbibe the tenets of rule of law and fair hearing in the handling of allegations against former public office holders.”

Parts of the resolution of the NEC meeting held in Abuja also include the vote of confidence passed in the APGA’s National Chairman, Chief Victor Oye and congratulatory message to Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, the newly sworn-in Governor of Anambra State.

It reads, “The NEC congratulated the new Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, on his successful election and inauguration as the governor of Anambra State.

“The NEC charges him to pilot the affairs of Anambra State in such a sterling manner that delivers the lofty promises in the APGA manifesto, while keeping alive the APGA spirit and mantra of being your brother’s and sister’s keeper.

“The NEC assured the Governor of Anambra State of the unwavering support and commitment of the party towards the realization of this ideal.

“The NEC also appreciated Ndi Anambra for the unalloyed confidence and trust reposed in APGA by granting the party the mandate to continue to pilot the affairs of the state.

“The NEC equally commended Ndi Anambra for their resilience, courage and undaunted commitment to APGA, in the face of adversity witnessed during the last governorship election in Anambra State.

“APGA Timetable/Schedule of Activities and APGA Electoral Guidelines for 2021/2022 bye-election and off season elections

“The NEC ratified the APGA Timetable/Schedule of Activities as well as APGA Electoral Guidelines designed and deployed by the party for all bye-elections and off-season elections conducted by INEC in 2021, including those yet to be conducted in 2022.

“The NEC commended the National Chairman, Ozonkpu Dr. Victor Ike Oye, for his avowed determination in ensuring that APGA participates in every election nationwide and for his able leadership.

“APGA Timetable/Schedule of Activities and APGA Electoral Guidelines for 2022 Primary Election for nomination of candidates for the 2023 General Election

“The NEC approved the APGA Timetable/Schedule of Activities as well as APGA Electoral Guidelines for 2022 primaries for the nomination of APGA candidates in the 2023 general election.

“The NEC urged party members, prospective aspirants and other stakeholders to religiously adhere to the stipulations in APGA Timetable and Electoral Guidelines for free, fair and hitch-free primary”.

The communique stressed further that, “The NEC passed a unanimous Vote of Confidence on the National Chairman of the party, Ozonkpu Dr. Victor Ike Oye, for the uncommon dexterity, prudence and efficiency he has displayed in the leadership of the party in the past 7 years.

“The NEC further enjoined him to do all within his powers and the extant laws to ensure that the party’s political capital is expanded at the forthcoming 2023 general election.”

PDP Misinforming Nigerians, Distorting The Achievements Of Our Administration – Lai Mohammed

ASUU Strike: A Lot Is Going On Behind The Scenes – Lai Mohammed
Lai Mohammed

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, on Monday, alleged that the Peoples Democratic Party’s desperation to return to power in 2023 was responsible for its plan “to sabotage” the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.)’s regime.

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed

The minister, who stated this while briefing journalists in Abuja, noted that the plan of the main opposition party was to overheat the polity, distort Buhari’s achievement, and misinform Nigerians.

He said, “As you know, the folks on the other side have been doing everything in recent times to overheat the polity, distort the achievements of our administration, and spread misinformation.

”Yes, it is very cold out there for the hungry and desperate opposition, but every indication is that they don’t even want to wait for the 2023 elections before testing their popularity or acceptability at the polls.

”How else does one explain their court case seeking the declaration of our convention as illegal? How do you explain their threat of another EndSARS that pushed Nigerians to the brink? How do you explain their glaring misinformation regarding the nation’s state of affairs?

“Gentlemen, there is nothing wrong in having a fiery and viable opposition in a democracy. We were there before and we remain the ones to beat in terms of determined, viable, and relentless opposition. But, in our time, not once did we advocate the destruction of Nigeria just because we couldn’t have our way.

“Not once did we seek to gain power via a desperate court action. If you destroy the country you are seeking to govern, what country will you govern? Must you cut your nose to spite your face?”

‘Where do kidnappers rescue their victims’? Lai Mohammed asks PDP over 2023 return plan

The minister also questioned the rationale behind the opposition party’s moves to return to power in 2023.

”In their most recent act of desperation, they sought to erase seven years of unprecedented achievements by the Buhari Administration. In the most egregious show of shamelessness and a blatant refusal to be remorseful, they even had the audacity to express righteous indignation that the damage they inflicted on the country in their 16 years of misrule has not been totally undone in just seven years.

“In other words, those who brought the country to its knees are now accusing those working hard to repair things of non-performance. They said they are ready to rescue Nigeria. Pray, where do kidnappers rescue their victims? These same guys who kidnapped the fortunes of their country are suddenly posing as rescuers. Caveat Emptor. Buyers beware! Nigerians Beware!”

“We are not under any illusion that they will stop their misrepresentation.

“No, because in their desperation to return to complete their demolition work on Nigeria, these folks will stop at nothing to paint us bad.

“But the good news is that Nigerians remain traumatized by their 16-year misrule, and will not return to ‘Egypt’ by allowing the ‘demolition gang’ back to office. In the meantime, let them present their 16-year stewardship in all the areas we have listed above and let Nigerians judge!”

Court Threatens To Strike Out EFCC’s Suit Against Sen Rochas Okorocha

Okorocha Asks Court To Dismiss N2.9bn Fraud Charges Against Him, Says It's Baseless
Senator Rochas Okorocha

A Federal High Court in Abuja, on Monday, has threatened to strike out the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s suit against former governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha.

Senator Rochas Okorocha

Justice Inyang Ekwo gave the warning following a complaint by Cosmas Ugwu, counsel for the EFCC, that all efforts made by the agency to effect service of court processes on Okorocha had been unsuccessful.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Okorocha, who is expected to be arraigned on a 17-count money laundering charge, is the current senator representing Imo West Senatorial District.

The lawmaker, who is the first defendant, is to be arraigned alongside Anyim Nyerere Chinenye, Naphtali International Limited, Perfect Finish Multi Projects Limited, Consolid Projects Consulting Limited, Pramif International Limited, and Legend World Concepts Limited.

Justice Ekwo had, on February 22, adjourned the arraignment until March 28, after Ugwu pleaded with the court over the agency’s inability to serve the senator.

But when the matter was called on Monday, Ugwu informed the court that the matter had been slated for arraignment of the defendants.

He, however, said “unfortunately the first defendant was yet to be served with the charge.”

The EFCC counsel said several efforts made to effect the service so that all the defendants could be charged together were unsuccessful.

“In view of this, we plead with my lord to graciously accommodate us with an adjournment,” he said.

In her response, Justice Ekwo reminded Ugwu that on February 22, when the case came up, he had given the same excuse.

“One month plus you are still coming to say you are yet to serve,” the judge said.

Ekwo said though he would grant Ugwu’s prayer for another adjournment, if he came up with the same excuse in the next adjourned date, the matter would be struck out.

“This will be the last time this matter will be adjourned,” he said.

The judge said the adjournment was to see how serious the commission was in prosecuting the matter.

He then adjourned the matter until May 30, for the defendants’ plea to be taken.

APC Will Take Over Sokoto In 2023 Says Al-Mustapha

Confusion As Osun APC Members Disrupt Stakeholders Meeting Over Senatorial Ticket Zoning

Ibrahim Al-Mustapha, a member of the House of Representatives has stated that his party, All Progressives Congress will take over Sokoto State come 2023.

APC Will Take Over Sokoto In 2023 Says Al-Mustapha

This was stated on Monday by Al-Mustapha, who represents the Wurno/Rabah Federal Constituency of Sokoto State in Abuja.

Al-Mustapha said, “Sokoto is an APC State.

“It is just exigencies of politics that we lost the state in 2019. I believe even those in the PDP will soon join us.

“So, Insha Allahu, come 2023, APC will take over Sokoto State, God willing.”

Al-Mustapha expressed delight with the resolution that had put to rest the crisis that had hitherto bedeviled the party in the state, as regards the state chairmanship, which led to litigation.

“It was an impasse. It was a little challenge and that is the beauty of democracy.

“Some people will feel disenchanted and you cannot stop them from airing their opinions, positive or negative.

Diesel, Cooking Gas price Hike A Global Trend –Lai Mohammed

Lai Mohammed

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, says the rising prices of petroleum products including petrol, diesel, aviation fuel and cooking gas in Nigeria are not limited to the country but a global problem also experienced in the United Kingdom and the United States.

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed

He stated this at a press conference in Abuja while reacting to sundry issues confronting the nation in recent times.

Mohammed said, “The last issue I want to address is the figures being bandied around by the folks on the other side and a section of the press,
comparing the prices of some foodstuffs, petrol, diesel, etc pre-2015 and now. This misuse of statistics is clear mischief. Those who bandy
around these figures without putting them in context are being clever by half.

“Let’s take the price of foodstuffs and petrol. Google the price of foodstuffs in other countries, especially the UK and the US, and you will discover a steep rise. Ditto for the price of gas or petrol. What we are saying is that this increase is a global trend, and it’s not limited to any country.

“Therefore, presenting it as a Nigerian problem is mischievous, disingenuous and a clear act of misinformation. Let me add that the crippling fuel shortage experienced across the country in recent times has started easing, as the measures put in place by the government begin to work.”

For months, Nigerians have had to contend with energy crisis with sharp increase in the cost of cooking gas, petrol amid power outages and grid collapse.

While petrol became scarce with a corresponding price increase, the price of diesel rose astronomically from about N250 to about N750. Also, 12.5kg of cooking gas, in the last one year, rose from about N3,000 to N8,000. Several businesses and homes have been badly affected by the crisis in the energy sector.

The General Manager, Traffic And Indiscipline Management Agency of Abia State, TIMAAS Ikeokwu Chinedu Bright has dissociated himself from a statement credited to him in which he allegedly said that PDP in the state will collapse of Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu picks his fellow Ngwa man to be the party’s governorship candidate in the 2023 election.

Bright Chinedu Ikeokwu

In a statement on Monday, he said there was never a time he had such interview with any media organisation, noting that it is not on his power to determine who will be the next governor of the state.

He therefore took a swipe at the newspaper (not ABN TV) for publishing what he called unverified falsehood, stating that governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s decision binds on him on the choice of his successor.

He called on the general public to ignore the publication, insisting that such statement never emanated from him.

“It is quite disappointing that a newspaper of repute would descend so low as to publish an unverified story.

“Governor Okezie Ikpeazu is my leader and boss. His directive is naturally binding on me. He leads and I follow. I am 100% loyal to his leadership and will continue to give my unalloyed support.

“The general public is advised to disregard the report and treat as fake news wherever seen.

“I have consulted with my lawyers and will explore every legal measures to address this propaganda against my person and office.”
