The Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo on Monday paid a condolence visit to Owo, Ondo State where Christian worshippers were gruesomely killed by gunmen.

The incident happened at St Francis Catholic Church in Owo leading to the death of scores of people while many were injured. The situation has thrown the nation into mourning with President Muhammadu Buhari, and several governors among others condemning the attack.

Meanwhile, the presidency has debunked rumours that Osinbajo was involved in a car accident while heading to the airport en route to Owo.

Several reports had surfaced in the early hours of the day claiming that Osinbajo had been involved in an auto accident.

But the Presidency rebuffed the claims in a tweet on its official Twitter handle.

“Vice President @ProfOsinbajo was not involved in an accident,” the tweet read.

“On his way to the airport, en route to Owo, Ondo State on a condolence visit, his convoy stopped to assist the lone victim of a car accident.”

It added that the victim was said to have been transported to Airforce Base Hospital to receive medical care.

Adamu Announces Ahmad Lawan As Consensus Candidate

Crisis has hit the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the announcement of Senate President Ahmed Lawan as consensus presidential aspirant by the national chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu.

Adamu made the announcement at the meeting of National Working Committee (NWC) on Monday in Abuja.

Other aspirants including Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; Dr. Kayode Fayemi and David Umahi, among others will however be allowed to contest the primary at the convention holding tomorrow at the Eagle Square, Abuja.

The NWC members insisted other aspirants must be given a level playing ground to compete.

Adamu’s adoption of Lawan as consensus candidate is against the position of 11 APC northern Governors, who endorsed that power must shift to the South after President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure.

Adamu told the National Working Committee that he arrived at the choice of Lawan after consultation with President Buhari.

James Milner Signs New Liverpool Contract

James Milner has signed a new one-year contract at Liverpool, it has been confirmed.

The ECHO understands the 36-year-old has taken a significant pay cut to remain at Anfield, having also turned down offers from the Premier League and abroad in the process. لعبة الدمبلة

Jurgen Klopp was the catalyst behind this deal being reached and is believed to be thrilled Milner has extended his stay at the club. تنزيل لعبة الروليت

Speaking back in February, the Liverpool boss said: “The level [Milner] is at, physically, technically and in terms of personal desire and hunger for more, means he should play on for as long as that lasts. I hope it will be here and that is what I have told those at the club who take on these tasks. سلوتس اون لاين

The three-time Premier League winner took the decision to wait until the end of the season before putting pen to paper, giving him enough time to weigh up his options.

Arriving on Merseyside in the summer of 2015 from Manchester City, Milner has developed into a vital member of the squad and epitomizes the club culture of the collective carrying greater importance than any one individual.

The veteran midfielder spent a season at left-back during the 2016/17 campaign and has been called upon on countless occasions over his seven-year spell.

Milner is currently the second longest-serving player in the squad, behind captain Jordan Henderson, and will be the only remaining name from Klopp’s first Liverpool starting-eleven still at the club once Divock Origi departs at the end of this month.

Owo Attack: Bring Perpetrators To Book, Group Tasks Govt

A socio-political group, Oodua Youth Coalition has condemned the killing of worshippers at St. Francis Catholic Church, Owa-luwa, Owo, Ondo State, by terrorists, asking that the government must bring the perpetrators to face the law.

In a statement titled ‘Oodua Youth Coalition Condemn Killing, Task Government To Bring Perpetrators To Book’, signed by the President of the group, Oluyi Tayo, it described as unfortunate, the event that took the lives of worshippers who left their various houses to commune with God.

The statement partly read, “It was another sign that Nigeria is drifting towards being a failed state, and government at all levels must rise to salvage the horrible and recurring decimal before citizens resort to self-help.

“The horrible scene of the event as seen in pictures and the report that the attack couldn’t be resisted by security agents due to lack of vehicles to mobilize their men to the scene speaks of how the security of lives and properties of the citizens has been trivialized and no longer a serious business as it ought to be.

“We charge the state security apparatus to do everything in their capacity to bring the perpetrators of this evil to book as the heinous display of terrorism must not go unpunished.”

The statement read further, “While we commiserate with people of the Ancient Kingdom of Owo and the Government of Ondo State, we call on the President Muhammadu Buhari, in his capacity as the Grand Commander of Armed Forces to as a matter of legacy rise to the deteriorating security situation across the country by displaying his disapproval of the killings with strong security resistance statement.”

“Crime has no ethnic and religious affiliation, blood-thirsty criminals must be treated in the language of terror they understand,” it added.

2023: Abia APC Publishes Names Of House Of Assembly Candidates (See Full List)

All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth Elements and North-East Youth Forum have opposed 11 Northern APC governors for endorsing southern presidential candidate, saying that their decision does not reflect the opinions of the people in the North.

The youths carrying placards with different inscriptions maintained that the APC should allow a candidate from the North to emerge if the party must remain in power.
Speaking with journalists during the protest yesterday, the state coordinator of North-East Youths Forum APC, Ibrahim Hashim Abdullahi, declared that the Northern youths would not support a presidential candidate of the APC from the southern part of the country.

“We are here to protest and reject the endorsement of 11 APC Governors on power shift to South in 2023. We are not in support of that decision and they did that for their personal benefit and interest. If you look at the APC governors who made endorsement are all outgoing governors and most of them are looking for survival after leaving office that’s why they did that without proper consultation.”

“President Muhammadu Buhari has started a lot of programs and projects that will make the North better, we need someone who knows the North very well and will be able to complete the projects and programs,” he said.

The group also appealed to the national working committee of the ruling All Progressives Congress not to consider the governor’s position as northern youth would never support or vote any southern candidate from the party.

There has been no development on his whereabouts, as his abductors were yet to make contact.
All efforts to speak with the Kogi State Police Command public relations officer, SP William Aya, proved abortive as his line was not connecting.
