Arsenal midfielder, Lucas Torreira has expressed his readiness to leave the club this summer after suffering so much neglect from them.
Recall that Torreira spent the 2021-22 season on loan at Fiorentina.
Despite there being some talk of the Uruguayan international returning to Italy on a permanent move, his Fiorentina transfer fell through earlier in the summer.
Speaking with El Telegrafo(as reported by the Daily Cannon), Torreira was asked about his chances of staying at Arsenal next season.
And the 26-year-old star replied, “Chances? None. From the beginning, they told me that I didn’t have a place, so I don’t want to stay either because I suffered a lot, it cost me a lot to adapt, and my idea is to go to Italy or Spain.”
The family of a 60-year-old man, Isak Wahab, has been thrown into mourning after he reportedly died from shock after an unauthorised withdrawal of N700,000 from his bank account.
His wife, Monsurat, accused his friend, identified only as Ola, of making the withdrawal, which she said led to the death of the sexagenarian.
Monsurat, while speaking to our correspondent during a visit to their residence in the Ikotun area of Lagos State, said Ola stole her husband’s ATM card.
She said, “Ola was a close friend to our family, particularly my husband. He had financial difficulties with his rent and he came to my husband to tell him that he wanted to sell his generator so that he could raise money to pay his rent. My husband told him not to do that and said he (Isak) was expecting payment from our tenants and he could help. My husband then gave him N10,000.
“Meanwhile, we did not know that Ola had taken my husband’s ATM card and he withdrew money from it amounting to N700,000. He withdrew the money in tranches of N200,000, N300,000 and another N200,000.”
The deceased’s son, Ajibola, alleged that Ola stole his father’s ATM card after he (Isak) became intoxicated while they drank alcohol together.
He said the case was reported at the Ikotun Police Station for investigation, adding that the suspect disappeared after he was accused of being responsible for the death.
He said, “Last week Thursday, my dad was not alright, but I felt it was just ordinary malaria or a small illness. But later, I was told that it was serious and I had to call my siblings. We later learnt from our mother that our father was defrauded by Mr Ola.
“My father died on Friday and we buried him on Saturday. After his burial, we went to his friend’s house, confronted him and while arguing with him, we seized his phone. Since that day, we have not seen him.
“As I speak to you, I have his phone with me and we have reported the case at the Ikotun Police Station. He had issues and needed money and our father promised to help and gave him N10,000.
“Now, Mr Ola took our father’s ATM card, went to a PoS operator, and transferred about N700,000 from his account to other accounts. When our father saw it, he was deeply sad and he died because he never expected that his best friend would do that to him.”
Our correspondent visited Ola’s house in the community, but he was nowhere to be found.
However, his younger brother, identified simply as Ifa Dollars, absolved the suspect of blame in the incident.
He said, “I heard what they said my brother did, but I don’t know anything about it. If my brother was involved in any way, they are the ones that know what they have been doing. But he has no hand in the death.”
Asked the whereabouts of Ola, he said, “I don’t know his whereabouts.”
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said nobody reported the incident to the police.
He said, “I have not heard anything about the case but as soon as we get information on the matter, I will contact you.”
He had yet to get back to our correspondent as of press time.
However, the deceased’s family insisted that the case was reported at the Ikotun Police Station on June 23, 2022.
The National Coordinator of the National Social Investment Programmes, NSIP, Dr. Umar Buba Bindir has said over 2 million households in the country were at the moment benefitting from federal government’s conditional cash transfer programme.
He also said over 20 million persons were indirect beneficiaries of the programme in the 2 million households.
This came as the FG began partnership with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC,the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission,ICPC and other relevant agencies to probe compliance level of the National Social Investment Programme,NSIP in states of the federation.
Bindir while speaking on Tuesday,at the stakeholders’ meeting on state compliance check exercise of NSIP in Abuja, said:”As we speak, we are now advancing cash transfer to two million households, these are houses of not individuals, so if you are approximately putting 10 people per household,you are talking about probably like 20 million or so people that we are handling.”
Bandir said the government was spending between N12 billion to N15 billion monthly.
“When you look at N-Power,we have a bill of possibly between N12 billion to 15 billion every month. And you can estimate that we have 510,000 now ongoing and we have the batch c for 490,000 coming on,so when you multiply the number of the graduates by N30,000 per month, you will get the figure,”he said. 888

The Permanent Secretary,who was represented by the Director, Special Needs, Mrs Nkechi Onwukwe, explained that,”Our primary goal is to meet the needs of the people who need a helping hand from Government to restore hope, provide support and succor, as well as an enabling environment for recovery, rehabilitation and social inclusion, while ensuring their human dignity is upheld at all times.”
The creation of the ministry,he explained, “was necessitated by the compelling need to harmonize, synergize, institutionalize, as well as provide coordination of all government’s humanitarian and social interventions.”

Sani-Gwarzo explained that since inception,the ministry has so far “achieved a lot in the area of the provision and effective coordination of humanitarian interventions in keeping with our mandate. “

The national president of Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka has stressed that the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi has triggered voter registration revolution.
He submitted that the interest of most Nigerians in the nation’s politics has suddenly been rekindled by the declaration of Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State for president and his subsequent emergence as the presidential candidate of Labour Party.
Igboayaka made the assertion on Monday when he addressed newsmen in Owerri, the lmo State capital.
According to him, this is evident in the influx of persons into INEC offices in quest for the permanent voter’s card, PVC, in readiness for the forthcoming 2023 general election, in spite of over 20-years of total abstinence from electoral participation.
“It is no longer news that Mr. Obi has gained the massive support of citizens across the various regions of the country, hence the party currently poses a serious threat to all other opposition parties including the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC,” he said.
He said Mr Peter Obi’s entrance into the Labour Party as the presidential candidate had caused massive voter registration in the country and implored the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to organise a national honour for Mr Peter Obi.
Igboayaka noted that INEC had, over the years, spent billions on voters’ education and sensitisation yet with little or no positive response from the masses.
He said: “But Mr. Peter Obi’s candidature in Labour Party that gave birth to ‘OBIdient movement’ has recorded large turnout of voters’ registration within a short period.
“It’s truism that 2022 voters registration has recorded much voters registration than 2014, 2010, 2006 and 2002 since the history of new democratic dispensation.
“Mr. Peter Obi’s entrance in 2023 presidential race has achieved in three months what INEC couldn’t achieve in 24 years, therefore we call on INEC to prepare a national honor to Mr. Peter Obi for making voters education very easy and acceptable. The 2023 presidential election is not about political party, but the political environment and the theory of situational politics has favoured Labour Party as a platform to birth a new Nigeria.”
He used the opportunity to advise the likes of Jim Nwobodo, Hope Uzodimma, Okezie Ikpeazu, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and David Umahi to guide their public speeches because 2023 presidential is beyond political permutations.
Igboayaka explained that the All Progressives Congress, (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) having denied the Southeast the deserved right to produce their presidential candidates should not expect much from the region.
The council, therefore, vowed to ensure that the two main parties would not enjoy the benefits of support from Southeasterners in the general election.
The Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mele Kyari, has said the country’s moribund refineries cannot be quickly restored.
Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday when he appeared before the House of Representatives Joint Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream), Kyari said the situation was regrettable but the NNPC was making efforts to bring the refineries back to work.
The committee is investigating the increase in prices of diesel and cooking gas.
“The refineries will not come back tomorrow. There is a process going on. We have decided to do a quick fix for the Warri refinery,” the NNPC boss said.
He said no one could guarantee the security of petroleum supply, adding that countries were preserving excess volume that they had in their kitty.
He said, “The world has never seen this kind of uncertainty. Today countries are stockpiling products. Shortly before COVID-19, the world was already facing a shortfall of 3 million barrels of supply of oil.”
The GMD said there had been no control to manage the energy crisis across the world, adding that, “to guarantee energy security means you just make products available at any time and at any cost.”
He disclosed that across the country, making over 200 illegal refineries were being operated.
He said the solution was to restore crude oil production, adding massive intervention was ongoing and by the end of July “we will restore production to a level that is reasonable.”
Kyari added, “Many European countries are asking for rationing gas, they are asking people to alternate their Air Conditioning.
“Today, countries are toying with subsidies because prices are so high because they don’t think they can manage inflation associated with it.”
Apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has expressed disappointment over the refusal of Abuja High court to grant the leader of the IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu bail on Tuesday.
National vice chairman of the group, Damian Okeke Ogene who expressed the disappointment in a telephone chat with newsmen, said it has now becomes very clear to them that President Muhammadu Buhari meant all he had said about his unwillingness to release Kanu.
Ogene, who warned against the consequences of refusal to release Kanu, recalled that in different public fora, Buhari had uttered negative statements concerning the release of Kanu as if he had committed heinous crimes against God and humanity.

Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike has said he is enjoying a much-needed vacation in Turkey.
Wike is in the company of Abia Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.
This is amid speculations that Wike may dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) due to the fallout over the presidential primary of the party and the failure of the party’s presidential standard-bearer, Atiku Abubakar, to pick the Rivers Governor as running mate for the 2023 general elections.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) have pledged to support, campaign and do everything within their power to ensure the Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi wins in 2023.
The NLC and TUC Presidents, Comrade Ayuba Wabba and Quadri Olaleye made the pledge in their different welcome addresses during the 10th anniversary lecture in honour of the third President of NLC, the late Pascal Bayau, on Tuesday in Abuja.
Speaking to the congregation of high-profile labour leaders and members who gathered at the lecture, Wabba stated that Obi was among the finest Nigerians and the first presidential candidate of the Labour Party to be recognised by the labour Centre.
The NLC President said the Congress was solidly behind the Labour Party candidate and would fully mobilise to ensure the victory of the party come 2023 general elections.
He also recalled that workers’ unions have realised that strikes and protests alone cannot change the narratives in Nigeria, which informed the full venture into politics and work hard to support candidates whose mantra will make life better for their members and Nigerians at large.
Olaleye said Obi was a face among the presidential candidates all labour unions are pleased and ready to work with, and that the entire labour movement had accepted, adopted and would support, and ensure workers massively voted for him in the 2023 presidential elections.
He further said the Labour Party was stronger, one and formidable.
The TUC president added that the party had a widespread structure, as there was a worker and a member of either TUC and NLC in every family across Nigeria.
He insisted that the Labour Party was the only party for Nigerian workers.
The former Anambra Governor said his visit to the leadership of the two labour centres was not to campaign but for a courtesy call; to honour the Organised Labour on whose party and interest he was seeking Nigerians’ vote in the 2023 general elections.
Obi said: “My commitment is to move Nigeria from consumption to production and you can’t talk about production without labour. Labour is the engine of production, capital and machines can do anything but labour is what makes it work. Because labour is the greatest contributor to production, it has to be properly remunerated.
“I don’t need to tell you how bad things are in this country today. if you are on wages, today Nigerians spend 100 per.cent of their wages on just feeding. So many don’t even know where their next meal will come from. They pay to train their children only for them to finish school and stay at home without work.
“These are issues we need to discuss. Nobody can be president without sitting down with the labour organisation to decide the future of Nigeria.
“We can no longer have a situation where the leaders are here and workers are there. They must sit on the same table and talk. That is the beginning of the solution, that is what is happening all over the world.
“Nigeria is not a producing country. The collective effect of what we are suffering today is bad leadership. We have a leadership that concentrates on sharing. So you have to move from sharing formula to production formula.
“This is a country of 200 million people sitting on 923,000 square kilometers of land. They can’t feed themselves, they can’t export anything.
“Total Nigeria’s export including oil is under $2 billion for 200 million people. A similar country, not a first world country, one with the same trajectory with Nigeria in the year 2000, Vietnam, sitting on 331,000 square kilometers of land, a third of Nigeria’s land space and 100 million population, with half of Nigeria’s population, their total earnings last year was $ 312 billion.”
He said that more than half of the country’s youths of productive age were unemployed, stating “This is what the Labour Party is seeking to sit down to discuss for the future of our country.”
The Maiduguri Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday, June 27, 2022, arraigned one Peter Ennemakwu Agbenyo before Justice Aisha Kumaliya of the Borno State High Court on one count charge of cheating to the tune of N1, 800,000.00 (One Million, Eight Hundred Thousand Naira).

The defendant pleaded ‘not guilty’ to the charge preferred against him by the EFCC.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, says its attention has been drawn to some reports in a section of the media, alleging that the Commission is detaining “a pregnant woman, nursing mother, others, over vote – buying” in the recently conclude Ekiti State Governorship election, consequent on some arrests made.
The Commission says there is no iota of truth in the reports, insisting that there is no pregnant woman among the suspects arrested on allegation of vote buying during the Ekiti governorship election.
In a statement on Monday by Wilson Uwujaren, the commission’s Head, Media & Publicity, he said a pregnancy test conducted on all female suspects arrested during the Ekiti governorship poll at the Kwara State Hospital, Ilorin, returned negative.
The statement, “Earlier tests conducted in a private hospital also came out negative for all the female suspects.
“Furthermore, it is important to stress that all the suspects, male and female, are being held, based on a valid Order of Court, pending the conclusion of investigations.
“The suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are finalized.
“The public is advised to ignore insinuations and wild claims about mistreatment of suspects as the Commission is committed to the observance of the rule of law in all its operations.”
