The General Overseer of Omega Power Ministry, OPM Port Harcourt, Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere has expressed dissatisfaction over the refusal of Nollywood actor, Kenneth Aguba to marry a Nigerian lady.

Aguba who is currently undergoing rehabilitation at OPM free estate in Port Harcourt has insisted that he will marry a virgin from Israel, rejecting all spinsters introduced to him.

ABN TV reports that two ladies who are seeking to have Aguba as life partner allegedly engaged in a free for all at the estate on Monday, constituting nuisance.

But speaking from overseas where he is at the moment, Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere said he has been monitoring events as they unfold though he has kept mum.

He there said, since Aguba has refused to marry any lady in Nigeria, he will transfer the gifts earlier set out for Aguba to the girls.

He said, “I am not in Nigeria. I have been monitoring events happening and I have refused to comment. Now I am saying something.

“As Aguba has refused to marry any woman from Nigeria. I am hereby transferring the gifts to the girls.

“Any man that marries both of them, I will support their wedding and also send them and their husbands for honeymoon in Dubai.

“But wedding must take place in Port Harcourt and marriage committee will follow them to their villages to confirm if the wedding is real or scam.

“After their wedding each of them shall be given large some of money to start business.

“I have informed authorities, that they are to stay clear from OPM free estate. No more causing nuisance in OPM estate.”

The Governor of Abia State, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has sent a congratulatory message to the Governor-Elect of Osun State, Senator Ademola Nurudeen Adeleke on his resounding victory in the just concluded Gubernatorial Election in the State.

Ikpeazu’s felicitations come a few hours after his Oyo counterpart, Governor Seyi Makinde congratulated Senator Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke, on his victory at the polls, saying that the power of the people has again triumphed.

According to Makinde, Adeleke’s victory was similar to what happened in Oyo State during the 2019 governorship election, when the people exercised their franchise in support of an opposition party.

The governor, who hailed the teeming voters across the 30 local governments of Osun State for standing by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and staying resolute to ensure that their votes counted, said: “it’s great to have a second PDP flag flying in the South-West.”

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, indicated that Governor Makinde equally lauded Senator Adeleke, PDP members and Osun State voters for remaining strong and unwavering throughout the electioneering period.

Aero Contractors Suspends Scheduled Operations Indefinitely

Aero Contractors, Nigeria’s oldest airline, says it will suspend passenger flights from Wednesday, July 20.

The airline, in a statement on Monday, said the suspension is temporary but did not indicate when it will resume operations.

In May, Aero had denied plans to shut down operations after reports alleged that the airline was cash-strapped and might soon go out of business.

Aero said the decision to suspend passenger flights was taken due to the fact that most of its aircraft are currently undergoing maintenance, resulting in an inability to offer a seamless and efficient service to customers.

“We are working to bring these aircraft back to service in the next few weeks, so we can continue to offer our passengers the safe, efficient, and reliable services that Aero Contractors is known for, which is the hallmark of Aero Contractors Company of Nig. Ltd,” the statement reads in part.

“This does not in any way affect the maintenance activities of the Approved Maintenance Organisation (AMO) otherwise known as AeroMRO, the Approved Training Organisation (ATO) also known as Aero Training School, the Helicopter and Charter Services operations.”

The airline also blamed the “impact of the challenging operating environment” on its daily operations.

It lamented that the past few months have been very challenging for the aviation industry.

It listed the issues hampering airline operations in Nigeria to include high cost of maintenance, skyrocketing fuel prices, inflation, and foreign exchange (FX) scarcity resulting in high FX rates.

Aero apologised to its customers for the inconvenience and promised to return to service as soon as possible.

“In the meantime, we are working assiduously to return to service as quickly as possible, and do assure our esteemed customers and stakeholders of our determination, that our short absence will not create any major void in the market, as we are coordinating with our business partners to ensure minimum discomfort to ticket holders,” the statement adds.

“As members of Spring Alliance (a commercial alliance with member airlines providing mutual support in the area of operations), we are liaising with our partner airlines to minimise the impact on our esteemed customers.

“Our customer service team will be working to help affected esteemed customers reach their destinations.

“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused to our esteemed customers and promise to return to service as soon as possible.

“We thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding at this time.”

The Inspector-General Of Police, Usman Baba, has ordered the probe of music star, Habeeb Okikiola, better known as Portable, over his alleged ties to One Million Boys, a notorious gang.

In a video, which went viral on Monday, Portable was heard saying he formed the gang and another notorious group known as Ajah Boys.

“Open your ears and hear me, Have you heard about Ajah Boys, One Million Boys, I’m their founder. Go and ask Sammy larry.”

The singer spoke Yoruba in the now-deleted video.

In a statement, Muyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, said the Lagos Commissioner of Police has been asked to investigate Portable.

“Sequel to the trending video of one Habeeb Okikiola aka Portable where he claimed to have formed the One-Million Boys cult group terrorising some parts of Lagos State, the IGP has ordered CP Lagos to investigate the indicting statement and take necessary legal action. This directive is premised on the continuous effort of the Nigeria Police Force to fish out pillars and sponsors of cult groups in order to decimate their activities and restore sanity to our society.”

Amaechi’s Transport Commissioner Cites Insecurity, Corruption, Dumps APC

As the gale of resignations in the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress continues, a former Commissioner for Transport, George Tolofari, has dumped the party.

Tolofari, who was a governorship aspirant of the party for the 2023 elections, had served as commissioner under the administration of Rotimi Amaechi as Governor of the state.

His resignation was contained in a letter he addressed to the APC chairman in Ward 12, Bonny Local Government Area.

Tolofari said the APC came to power on the mantra of anti-corruption, justice and equity but expressed dismay that everything it preached against held sway and even threaten the existence of the country.

The former transport commissioner after reviewing the state of affairs of the APC-led government in the country, he was exiting his membership of the main opposition party in the state.

The statement read partly, “The above subject matter refers. Joining the APC was based on personal conviction, but having reviewed the general state of affairs of the APC-led government in the country, I’m no longer convinced of my continued stay in the party.

“The APC came on the mantra of anti-corruption, justice, equity and insecurity. But today that hope is dashed as insecurity, corruption and injustice stare us squarely in the face and threaten the very existence of our beloved country.

“To my dear leaders and die hard party faithful in Bonny, who see me as a role model and a loyal party man, I’m sorry to disappoint you by my decision. I guess I’m human after all, forgive me.

“My gratitude goes to my leader, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, and the party for the opportunity to serve the state and the party in the recent past.

“Although this is a very difficult and painful decision to make, I believe it’s time to move on. Let me also take this opportunity to wish the APC all the best in the forthcoming elections in 2023.”

Two other commissioners who served under Amaechi, Dame Ibim Semenitari (Information and Communications) and Dr. Dawari George (Energy and Natural Resources) had also resigned their membership of the party.

NMA Urges Political Office Holders To Fix Nigeria’s Health System, End Medical Tourism

The Nigerian Medical Association has urged political office holders in the country to end medical tourism and fix the country’s fragile health system.

The NMA also prays for Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo’s quick and complete recovery from leg surgery.

Recall that the vice-president had on Saturday undergone leg surgery at the Duchess International Hospital, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos.

Medical doctors, who performed the surgical operation on Osinbajo described it as successful.

However, in a statement released on Sunday by the President of the NMA, Dr. Uche Ojinmah made available to PUNCH HealthWise, the association commended the Vice-President for demonstrating confidence in the Nigerian doctor and the country’s health care system.

The statement read, “NMA wishes to thank God for seeing our Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo through surgery.

“All Nigerian doctors are praying for his quick and complete recovery.

“NMA hereby also commends Mr.Vice,-President for demonstrating confidence in the Nigerian doctor and healthcare system.

“We are certain that he was impressed. We call on other political office holders in Nigeria to emulate the Vice President and end medical tourism.

“It is time to fix our fragile healthcare system to the benefit of the common man and our economy.”

Ojinmah said the time for action is now, urging those concerned to do the needful.

Osinbajo’s Spokesman, Mr. Laolu Akande, had posted a statement from the hospital confirming that the vice-president had a successful leg surgery on Saturday at the Duchess International Hospital, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos.

“The vice-president was admitted to Duchess International Hospital, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos, today on account of a fracture of his right femur (thigh bone), possibly related to a longstanding injury associated with a game of squash.

“He had a surgical operation performed by a team of specialist doctors, including Dr. Wallace Ogufere, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Dr. Om Lahoti, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon and Dr. Babajide Lawson, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon.

“Others were Dr. Ken Adegoke, Consultant in Anaesthesia and Critical Care, Dr. Oladimeji Agbabiaka, Consultant Anaesthetist, and Dr. Adedoyin Dosunmu-Ogunbi, Consultant Physician and Medical Director.

“The operation was successful and Osinbajo is expected to be discharged within the next few days,” Dosunmu-Ogunbi said.

While Osinbajo sought treatment at home, his principal, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), has a preference for foreign medical care, a situation that has continued to anger many Nigerians.

NMA has continued to express displeasure at the neglect suffered by the health sector amid the president’s frequent medical trips.

Seven years and two months since his regime began on May 29, 2015, President Buhari has spent over 201 days on medical leave based, according to information made public by the presidency.

The presidential clinic caters to the president, vice president, their families, and members of staff of the presidential villa, Abuja.

Despite the existence of the presidential clinic, Buhari’s preference for foreign medical care has remained a concern to stakeholders in the health sector.

Stakeholders in the health sector say the attraction to foreign health care by political office holders demonstrated the failure of leadership.

According to them, the continued patronage of foreign hospitals by privileged Nigerians, including the president and his immediate family, has increased the lack of confidence in the sector, thereby increasing medical tourism and wastage of public funds on such adventures.

Immediate past General Secretary of the NMA, Dr. Philip Eke, in an earlier interview with PUNCH Healthwise on the president’s frequent medical trip, credited the private sector for a majority of the development recorded in the health sector.

He said, “We could have committed more funds to make the health sector better. But unfortunately, it is even the private sector that is improving the health sector, not the public sector, because the government is not even buying equipment.

“It may seem as if the workers are paid relatively higher, but that money is nothing when the cost of food is very high. By and large, I don’t think there is much improvement in the health indices in the country as expected. The private sector has done a whole lot trying to improve the health sector.

“But one thing again is that the behavior of the public office holders tells you that there has not been any improvement in the health sector because if they had improved the health sector, they would have the confidence to stay and get treated.”

“What is the illness that the president has that we don’t have the personnel or manpower in Nigeria to treat such that he has to travel out of the country? 

“That tells you that even if he does not trust the system and if the President does not trust the system, it means he is not leading by example and means other public office holders will also leave.”

According to him, the neglect of the health sector has been a major reason for the brain drain in the sector with many health workers moving to Canada, the UK, Saudi Arabia, and other developed countries.

Nigeria’s Inflation Overshoots World Bank Projection By 20%

DESPITE raising its Monetary Policy Rate (interest rate), Nigeria’s inflation rate is now 20 per cent above the World Bank’s projection of 15.5 per cent.

In its recent ‘Nigeria Development Update (June 2022): The Continuing Urgency of Business Unusual,’ the global bank projected that Nigeria’s inflation rate was going to be higher than it had anticipated and would hit 15.5 per cent.

The latest inflation figure from the National Bureau of Statistics, released on Friday, showed that the nation’s inflation rose to 18.60 per cent in June, the highest since January 2017 when it was 18.72 per cent.

The NBS said, “In June 2022, the inflation rate increased to 18.60 per cent on a year-on-year basis. This is 0.84 per cent points higher compared to the rate recorded in June 2021, which is 17.75 per cent.

“This means that the headline inflation rate increased in the month of June 2022 when compared to the same month in the previous year (i.e., June 2021). Increases were recorded in all COICOP divisions that yielded the Headline index.

“On a month-on-month basis, the headline inflation rate increased to 1.82 per cent in June 2022, this is 0.03 per cent higher than the rate recorded in May 2022 (1.78 per cent).”

According to the statistics body, urban inflation rose to 19.09 per cent and rural inflation hit 18.13 per cent in June 2022. This is despite the recent interest rate increase by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

In May, the CBN raised the nation’s interest rate from 11.5 per cent to 13 per cent in a bid to address inflation in the nation. The CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, disclosed that the Monetary Policy Committee had to increase the monetary policy rate by 150 basis points to prevent inflation.

He said, “Six members voted to raise the MPR by 150 basis points, four members’ by 100 basis points and one member, by 50 basis points.

“Members expressed deep concern about the continued uptrend of inflationary pressure in spite of the gradual improvement in output growth.

“Committee notes that the current rise in inflation is inimical to growth and the full recovery of the Nigerian economy.”

According to the World Bank, rising inflation will push millions of Nigerians into poverty in 2022.

The new sanctions against Russia the Foreign Ministers of the EU countries agreed on in Brussels on Monday provide for a ban on the purchase of gold in Russia and the supply of dual-use goods there, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations of Hungary, Peter Szijjarto, told reporters.

He added that the seventh sanctions package will be finalized later on Monday by the permanent representatives of the EU countries.

“The plans include an embargo on the purchase of gold, tightening rules on trade in so-called dual-use goods, further restrictions on government purchases and deposit taking, as well as bans on other services, mainly related to accounting, auditing and tax advice,” the minister said as quoted by the MIT agency.

Szijjarto also said that, at the suggestion of his country’s government, a clause was included in the list of new sanctions that would allow Sberbank to fulfill its obligations to former Hungarian partners and clients. Caught under sanctions, Sberbank was forced to stop the work of its subsidiary in Hungary.

 

Ukraine Withdraws From CIS Agreement On Cooperation In Customs Affairs

The decision on Ukraine’s withdrawal from the accord was made at a Verkhovna Rada meeting on Monday, with 327 lawmakers supporting the move

Ukraine has withdrawn from the Commonwealth of Independent States’ (CIS) Agreement on Cooperation and Mutual Assistance in Customs Affairs, Verkhovna Rada (parliament) member Alexey Goncharenko said on Monday.

“Ukraine has left another CIS agreement, which concerns cooperation and mutual assistance in customs affairs,” he wrote on Telegram.

The decision on Ukraine’s withdrawal from the accord was made at a Verkhovna Rada meeting on Monday, with 327 lawmakers supporting the move.

The agreement, made on April 15, 1994, is designed to ensure cooperation between member states in the field of customs by providing administrative assistance to the customs authorities and taking coordinated measures to expose and prevent offenses that harm the economic interests of the parties. The Verkhovna Rada Commission on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation recommended that lawmakers pass a law on the country’s pullout from the agreement on February 8, claiming that the document “has lost its practical importance for Ukraine and is no longer implemented.”.
