Why We’re Indifferent To Call For Buhari Impeachment Now — PDP Reps
President Muhammadu Buhari

Some opposition lawmakers in the House of Representatives have expressed their reservations and concerns about the newfound interest of some of their colleagues to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari.

The lawmakers said they are not particularly enthusiastic about the impeachment threat against Buhari because it will be practically impossible to remove him as president owing to some factors.

While some cited the timing as a major factor, others said the presiding officers of both chambers of the National Assembly, the Senate and the House of Representatives, were Buhari’s henchmen who would strongly frustrate the plan to remove him.

It will be recalled that the minority caucus in the Senate, led by the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP on July 26, 2022, staged a walkout from plenary as the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, frustrated their efforts to commence impeachment moves against Buhari in protest against the high-level insecurity in the country.

They, subsequently, handed down a 6-week ultimatum on the President to quell the situation or face impeachment.

Subsequently, the minority caucus in the House of Representatives also joined in the call, saying the process of impeachment would begin in the Green Chamber at the expiration of the ultimatum given by the Senate.

But reacting to the development, some of the lawmakers said they were indifferent to the impeachment furor, stressing that the timing was wrong because of the length of time it would take to actualize the impeachment.

The current administration has barely nine months to round off and quit office.

“We called on members of NASS to commence the impeachment of Mr. President two years ago and we also urged Nigerians to call on their Representatives to commence impeachment” Vanguard quoted one of the lawmakers as saying

“We did so because we identified the incompetence of the present administration and its unresponsive posture to the yearnings of the people and its glaring inability to protect the lives of Nigerians which is a fundamental constitutional breach.

“Perhaps members were then either too busy or just laid back to appreciate what we were saying. It was branded a personal call. Both Nigerians and parliamentarians, including the press, played it down.

“The present call for impeachment only vindicates us and very sincerely is coming late in the day and not much benefit will come to the masses.

“I respect the parliament for even rising at all but I will not be surprised to hear that the call has been dropped.

“I pray that Nigerian lives matter to all of us in various public offices. This insecurity is like rainfall, it doesn’t discriminate on grounds of political leaning, tribe, or religion. It falls on all roofs.

Abia APC: Ikechi Emenike Is Our Problem – Party Chieftain, Nnanna Kalu

[OPINION] Ikechi Emenike And The Convolution Of Abia Politics
High Chief Ikechi Emenike
Prominent businessman and Politician , Chief Nnanna Kalu has urged the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to caution a factional governoship candidate of the party, Ikechi Emenike.

Kalu described Emenike as a divisive politician that has polarized the party in the state

Kalu stated this in a chat with newsmen at the national headquarters of the party on Monday morning , stressing that Emenike lacks the capacity to win the 2023 governoship election in the state.

He accused Emenike of working with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to cause confusion in the APC through promotion of hate, lies and acrimony.

“Today APC is in trouble with characters like Ikechi Emenike. Emenike is the biggest problem in APC today. With support from two Ministers in Abuja he hijacked the party for his selfish interest . People are leaving the party everyday because of him.

“I am appealing to the national chairman of our great party, Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu and other leaders of the party to call Ikechi Emenike to order. Emenike is now abusing party leaders like Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and Uche Ogah . Is that the person that wants to win election in Abia ?

“I knew opportunities were given to him to reconcile with other party leaders in Abia and he and his cohorts refused to be part of it, one of those opportunities headed by Hope Uzodinma of Imo State and another headed by the present National Chairman of APC. In all, Emenike constituted himself as a sole proprietor of APC which led to the defection of many members including Dr. Alex Otti, Mascot Uzor Kalu, Chief Amobi Ogah, Etigwe Uwa (SAN), Hon. Acho Obioma and others.

“Emenike has no electoral value in Abia State and should not pretend about it . He is the reason why people are leaving the party. A man who can’t win his polling unit is parading himself as governorship candidate. All politics are local and Emenike lacks what it takes to win a Councilorship position. “

I Won’t Probe Oyetola’s Administration, Says Senator Ademola Adeleke

Governor-elect of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke has stated that his administration will not probe Adegboyega Oyetola when sworn in as Governor.

Adeleke said though his transition committee is not getting adequate cooperation from the present government, he expects that the situation will change before the handover date.

The spokesperson of the governor-elect, Olawale Rasheed via a chat said the incoming administration intends to quickly make known its policy after studying the handover note that would be prepared by the outgoing government. العاب قمار روليت

He also added that there is no form of breach of trust between the incoming and outgoing administration.

Mr. Rasheed said: “There is no form of breach of trust between us. It is normal for hiccups like these to happen when there is a change of government between two parties. We are hopeful that we will get more cooperation as we move forward.

“We won’t be probing the present administration. What we will do is just go through the handover notes to put issues in perspective before announcing our policy statement.

“To probe an administration will also amount to wasting precious time of the new administration and with the people’s expectations from us; that will be expensive for us.

[OPINION] Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji: Visible Leaders As Invincible Winners

0

[OPINION] Ikuku Oma Abia: Wiping Away Tears, Restoring Hope
Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji
In every polity, there are common politicians but there are also uncommon leaders.

The common politician is usually seen putting up public appearances only at campaigns or anywhere else and embark on emergency philanthropic gestures only during election seasons. But immediately after elections are over, even if they by any chance win, they recoil into their shells and disappear entirely into thin air until another election season approaches.

That was why James Freeman Clarke said “A politician thinks of the next election; a statesman thinks of the next generation”.

The home of such politician becomes a no go area after elections, especially if they by any chance win; their homes are suddenly tucked away from the reach of the common man while their offices become a fortress impregnable by the cries of the citizens for attention to their welfare. It is even worse when they lose as they often do. They leave the state, travel and stay in other places including overseas until another election cycle approaches when their posters take up the role of a forerunner and begin to make it to strategic points of the state, albeit nicodemusly, announcing the coming of self acclaimed ‘saviours’, but only for campaign purposes.

However, great leaders with a heart for the people are both visible and Invincible always, never influenced by the coming of elections in their interactions with the people or their welfare. For such leaders, it is both natural and scriptural to do good, be compassionate, considerate, caring, fair and just to all peoples of all nations, class, status and means. To such leaders, the people are the attraction and never a distraction.

This is why Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, the Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly and the PDP hopeful for Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency at the forthcoming 2023 general elections is an uncommon Leader who has always been visible both as a person and through his works and therefore remains indelible in the minds of the people. When people think of ‘politicians’, he rarely comes to mind but when they think of great leaders, he is quickly reckoned with. And our youths of these days have matured from following politicians of seasonal value to eagerly wanting to associate with leaders of intrinsic and enduring virtues.

In consonance with the above, youths and youth groups of massive followership in Abia State have been hosting the Speaker, Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji. This they have been doing on their own and without prompting just to appreciate him for being one of the rare kind of leaders in our clime and time, consistent with his values, never being intoxicated by the trappings of office or influenced by the pride of power.

Recently, the Urban Youths for Good Governance (UYGG) hosted the Speaker to an evening of interaction with the youths. The event which was attended by a mammoth crowd of youths was both colourful and epoch. The sprawling event centre, venue of the occasion in Umuahia, was filled to capacity. It eventually graduated to a festival of political melting pot for the people as chieftains from other major political parties in the state including some of their aspirants came together to join the youths to celebrate the Speaker. A chieftain of the APC present declared during his speech on the night that the Speaker is the only political leader in Abia State who enjoys massive support among the people across party lines.

The Deputy Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly and PDP chieftain, Rt Hon Ifeanyi Uchendu and the Member representing Aba South State Constituency at the Abia State House of Assembly and Deputy Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) at the 2023 general elections, Hon Obinna Ichita were also on ground to join the youths in celebrating the Speaker.

Furthermore, it was generally said that Ikuku Oma Abia is the only political leader who could come to the event centre, renowned for hosting strictly social events, and talk politics without provoking negative reactions from the people there. When a leader is endeared to the people through his good works and genuine love for them, even coals of fire will serve as soothing ice to the soles of his feet.

That the ‘Phillipines’ also turned out in their number for the event is a loud testament to the fact that Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji is indeed a man of the people who deserves to be trusted with even greater responsibility as Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency in Abuja from where the people will reap even greater benefits from his avowed people-oriented leadership qualities.

If not him, who else? If you are visible, you are Invincible!

Abuja beckons…

Ukrainians’ Will To Hold Referendums Has Nothing To Do With Russia, Kremlin Insists

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov

The people of Ukraine’s Kherson and Zaporozhye Regions want referendums, Ukrainian president Vladimir Zelensky has nothing to ask of Russia and its leadership in this situation, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Monday, commenting on Zelensky’s statements that holding referendums in these territories on joining Russia would mean the end of talks with Moscow.

“The fact is that these are the plans of the residents of the regions. It’s not us holding a referendum. Here, apparently, it is necessary to understand to whom Mr. Zelensky addresses this statement: to the citizens of Ukraine’s mentioned regions or to the citizens of Russia. If he is addressing citizens or the leadership of Russia, then, in this case, we are the wrong address. He [Zelensky] should turn to his own citizens and ask why there are so many of them who do not want to live in his country,” the Kremlin spokesman pointed out.

On Sunday, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said that if the planned referendums in the Kherson and Zaporozhye Regions took place, there would be no possibility of Russia-Ukraine talks.

The West’s Ultimate Goal Is To Destroy Russia — Medvedev

Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council Dmitry Medvedev

Georgia’s 2008 attack on South Ossetia and the conflict in Ukraine are elements of the same anti-Russian process, Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev told TASS in an interview.

“Those are elements of one process, of one conspiracy aimed against Russia. By doing so, the West — primarily the United States and other Anglo-Saxon countries — are seeking to stir tensions. They are acting through our neighbors, in the immediate vicinity of the Russian borders,” Medvedev said.

According to him, prior to Georgia’s 2008 attack on South Ossetia, the US government had been training Georgian troops and inciting the-then president of Georgia, Mikhail Saakashvili, to attack South Ossetia and Russian peacekeepers stationed there. At present, Washington is engaged “in the same provocative and, to put it bluntly, criminal “policy course in Ukraine” with a substantially more active support from the European Union, which has completely lost its independence by now.”

“Their goal is the same — to destroy Russia. This is the root cause of the aggressive Russophobic geopolitical process initiated by the West,” Medvedev said.

“Like with Georgia before the 2008 events, the Americans deliberately fostered Kiev’s sense of impunity, pumped it with arms, and encouraged the killings of Donbass civilians,” Medvedev added. “They still keep practicing this in Ukraine they don’t care a dime about,” the deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council concluded.

On the night of August 8, 2008, Georgia attacked South Ossetia. On the same day, Medvedev, the-then president of Russia, launched an operation to persuade Georgia to make peace. As a result, Georgia was defeated militarily, while Russia recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
