2023: APC Will Be Doomed If President Buhari Allows Free, Fair Elections – Gov Wike
Governor Nyesom Wike

The governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, declared on Wednesday that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would be doomed if President Muhammadu Buhari did not break his promise not to meddle in the conduct of the general elections in 2023.

Such tenacity, according to Wike, demonstrated Buhari’s commitment to leaving a lasting legacy of holding free and fair elections.

“I thank Mr. President that he wants to leave a legacy of conducting a free and fair election.”

Wike made the statement on Wednesday, during Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu’s flag-off of construction work on the Igwuruta internal roads in the state’s Ikwerre Local Government Area.

Wike recalled how the APC-led federal government through the immediate past Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, deployed the Nigerian Army to rig the 2019 general elections in Rivers State, but that the people resisted and thwarted their scheme.

“Thank God Mr. President for saying that you will not interfere or intimidate anybody. That means your party has no way to win. العاب بوكر

Wike also expressed doubt concerning the public promise made by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deliver a better election to Nigerians.

“My problem is INEC, whether they will do what they said they will do. They are making promises now. I don’t know whether they will keep to it. If INEC will keep to the promises that Nigeria will get a better election, I will be so happy. Everybody will see with their eyes; that Abuja does not vote. It is the people here that will vote. قوانين بلاك جاك

Speaking further, Wike stressed the need for those seeking votes from the Rivers electorate to courageously tell them what they would eventually benefit from such electoral support.

“So, if you have given to Adamawa, you have given to Benue, you have given to Delta, would you not give Rivers? Is it just to collect our votes?”

The governor described as unfortunate the inability of some former military generals to use their contacts with the Central Intelligence Agency of America (CIA) to solve the Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria.

Wike maintained that such generals should have been more concerned about the insecurity situation in the country, and resolved to use their CIA contacts to restore peace across the country, instead of threatening him and his friends to succumb to their biddings.

“Some people threatened that they are former generals, they are close to the CIA in America and they can deal with us. I said listen, no problem. If you are close to the American CIA, why don’t you use it to solve Boko Haram problem? Is it on my body(me) that you’ll use it? Nigeria has a serious problem and you are close to the CIA, you know them as former generals, so why not use that contact and solve Nigeria’s problem?

“You want to use it to threaten me. Who are you that I should come and do your own biddings? I say no to that. I will do the biddings of Nigerians not the biddings of a few people who believe that if they are not there, it should be their children.

“No other child should come up outside them. I will not do that. So, all of us, prepare because a day shall come and Rivers State shall take a decision on what to do.”

Wike also took a swipe at a self-acclaimed leader from the South-South who is seeking his personal gain instead of that of the region.

“What will they tell their children? People who will like to eat their own share, eat their children’s share, and eat their grandchildren’s share.

“When somebody at the age of 70 something is lobbying to be Chief of Staff, what will his own children lobby for?”

Wike disassociated himself from such people who can do anything as agents set against their own people. He emphasized that no matter the enticement, he will never betray his or mortgage the interest of Rivers State. bet 365

Performing the flag-off, the governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, noted the unparalleled leadership style and courage that governor Wike has wielded in providing enduring infrastructure for the Rivers people.

Dr. Ikpeazu aligned with such determination and enthused that as leaders, they will continue to provide democratic dividends to the people of their various states till the end of their tenure in 2023.

Niger Communities Around Electricity-Generating Dams Facing Havoc – Gov Bello

Governor of Niger State, Abubakar Sani Bello has disclosed that communities around electricity-generating dams in the state have been subjected to untold hardship due to activities in the dams that have led to the loss of houses and livelihood.

This was stated on Wednesday in Minna, the Niger State capital at the official commissioning of the headquarters of the Hydro Power Producing Area Development Commission (HYPADEC) and the unveiling of operational vehicles.

He said having an official operational office would provide a conducive environment for the effective coordination and administrative activities of the commission.

He charged the commission to bring succor to the affected communities that have continued to suffer the effects of flooding as a result of hydroelectricity generation activities.

Earlier, the managing director of the commission, Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, said the power-generating companies that were expected by the act that established the commission to contribute 10 percent of their revenues to the commission were not living up to their responsibility.

He said over 5, 000 youths from HYPPADEC communities in six states had been trained in various entrepreneur skills in addition to the provision of infrastructure in the communities affected by the flood.

I’ll Increase Electricity Generation Or Quit Office If Elected President — Obi

Labour Party, LP, Presidential candidate and former Anambra State governor, Mr. Peter Obi, has vowed to increase electricity generation in Nigeria, or quit as president after his first term.

Obi made the vow, while addressing a packed audience at the prestigious Beverly Hilton Los Angeles flag-off of his US speaking tour.

Obi, who flew in from Toronto, Canada, listed countries that had doubled their power supply in a few years to include Egypt, which he recently went to understudy, and lamented that even the president of South Africa, which produces 50,000 megawatts of electricity, had just declared a state of emergency in the sector for being too little but Nigeria, which produces a paltry 4,000 megawatts for over 200 million people, has not.

“I will increase power generation in four years. This is not a guarantee. I am saying if I don’t do it, I will leave the office,” Obi said.

He bemoaned the fact that no one was held to account in Nigeria, pointing out that when they entered office, they reneged on what they had promised, claiming they didn’t know what it entailed, saying “in Nigeria, people don’t do what is expected; people do what is inspected!”

He challenged the enthusiastic Nigerians in America to hold him accountable when he comes to power to deliver on what he promised.

Obi, whose speech was interrupted with applause and chants of “Obi” said no one was asking for perfection but at least leaders should show direction and efforts.

Narrating an interaction he had with a member of a rival party on the flight to Toronto the previous day, Obi asked him if he knew the pilot. When the man said, “no,” he further asked, “but you trust him that he is taking you to Toronto as he announced?”

However the problem with governance in Nigeria, he stated, was that after promising a flight to Toronto, the pilots of the state would enter the cockpit and begin to make excuses that they didn’t know the airplane needed fuel and that the destination was Lagos.

Concluding, the guest speaker declared: “Election of 2023 must not be based on religion, tribe, connection or entitlement but character, competence, capacity and commitment.”

Responding to questions as to how he proposed to increase power generation, Obi stated that he discovered that one of the companies responsible for Egypt’s power transformation is present in Nigeria so he decided to investigate why they haven’t replicated similar success.

He said his findings will remain confidential for now, but there was no magic involved in achieving it.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has stated how his administration resolved a four-month old strike of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in one day.

He said this on Wednesday in Abuja at the 70th birthday celebration of Matthew Hassan Kukah, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, organised by The Kukah Centre.

University lecturers have been on strike since February this year over irreconcilable difference with the Federal Government.

“The society we are managing is complex, now we are talking about ASUU strike, during my time too, ASUU had four months of strike, different committees were meeting and meeting and nothing was working. I said how can our children stay out of school for four months? So I had to call a meeting of all the leadership of ASUU.

“I presided over the meeting with my vice president, the Attorney General was there, I said that that night we must solve the problem. The Attorney General was there, Secretary to the Government of the Federation was there, the ministers of education were there, the labor ministers were there the finance ministers, everybody that has to do with it.

“And I thought that my being there would help us to do things quickly. But we spent the whole night, before we finished on like 5:30am Before we concluded and the strike was called off, so there were issues,” Jonathan said.

He noted that Bishop Kukah despite his friendship with leaders also bash them when he feel they were not doing some things right, including himself.

While describing the claim as untrue, Udensi the disputed governorship candidate of the party in Abia said if the governor has constructed about 150 roads in the past seven and half years yet his Arochukwu local government does not have one, the claim in unfounded.

According to him, a friend of his from UmunneochI also raised a similar concern about the poor state of roads in his local government, a situation he said is the same in Isuikwuato.

“If he has built 150 roads and some local governments don’t have a single road, then what are we talking about? Should we be clapping for such a man?” he queried.

Making a reference to the neighbouring Ebonyi and Anambra states, he said Anambra in the last couple of years has constructed and maintained 320 roads in addition to four flyovers constructed.

Ebonyi state he said has constructed and maintained 350 roads, while Enugu has 350 constructed and maintained and in Imo he said has close to 400 roads.

“The only way you can know if you have done well is to look at what your neighbor is doing.

“These states have done all these while still paying salaries, paying pensioners, paying all the outstanding of emolument of workers,” he said.

He accused the governor of abandoning healthcare facilities, stating that Ikpeazu has not raised the bar of good governance in the past seven and a half years, adding that a lot a still not done.

APC Wants To Use, Dump Jonathan – Deji Adeyanju

Deji Adeyanju, activist and convener of Concerned Nigerians has stated that the All Progressives Congress is planning to use and dump former President Goodluck Jonathan.

This was stated by the activist following the recent visit of the presidential candidate of the APC, Bola Tinubu to Jonathan in Abuja on Tuesday night.

Adeyanju reminded the former President of the role the APC cabals played during its presidential primary, saying he earlier warned him of ‘use and dump.’

Recall that Tinubu, who was accompanied by his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima, led a delegation of five APC governors. They included the Governor of Plateau State and Director-General of his Presidential Campaign Council, Simon Lalong; his Ogun State counterpart, Dapo Abiodun; Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle; Jigawa State Governor, Abubakar Badaru and Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq.

While the details of the meeting were not made public, a source in Tinubu’s camp told our correspondent that the visit was an extension of the APC national leader’s consultation with major stakeholders in the polity ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

“His visit to Jonathan shouldn’t come to anyone as a surprise. Tinubu holds no grudges with any political leader whether within the party or in the opposition,” the source had said.

Reacting via a Facebook post, Adeyanju said, “Dear Goodluck Jonathan, you won’t die if you don’t support anyone in this election. During the APC primaries when the cabal was deceiving you, hope you remember all my warnings to you that they just wanted to use and dump you. A word is enough for the wise.”
