Many residents of Ukraine are afraid to ‘even open their mouths’ because the current government terrorizes those who do not support Kiev’s policies, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday at a plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF).

“In Ukraine, for a long time, power has actually fallen into the hands of extreme nationalists and neo-Nazis, and they are carrying out total terror there. And many people are afraid to even open their mouths and say what they really think. We are sometimes critical of some of our citizens who perceive our actions to protect Donbass in their own way, but there they are shot in the streets and killed without trial. Those who have a different opinion <…> there, they are simply physically destroyed,” Putin said.

At the same time, the Russian president noted that there were many Ukrainians who did not support Kiev’s policy and opposed neo-Nazism. However, the threat from the authorities is so great that it prevents them from freely expressing their opinions.

Putin also stressed that Russia would maintain relations with those residents of Ukraine who “understand what is going on”. The President expressed the hope that it is these people who will support the establishment of relations between the two countries.

Russian President Vladimir Putin

Amid the unprecedented Western sanctions his country faces over its military operation in Ukraine, Russian President, Vladimir Putin, has disclosed why it is impossible to isolate Russia.

Putin who made this known on Wednesday eulogized the increasing role of the Asia-Pacific region in global affairs.

“No matter how much someone would like to isolate Russia, it’s impossible to do this,” Putin told the Eastern Economic Forum in Russia’s Pacific port city of Vladivostok.

“I mean the sanctions fever in the West, its undisguised aggressive attempts to impose behaviour patterns on other countries, deprive them of their sovereignty and subordinate them to their will,” he said.

The likes of Washington and Brussels have pummeled Russia with a barrage of economic and personal sanctions after Putin sent the Russian military into Ukraine on February 24.

Facing growing isolation and a deteriorating relationship with the West, Russia is seeking to pivot the country toward the Middle East, Asia, and Africa.

“The role of the countries of the Asia-Pacific region has significantly increased,” Putin said.

Putin added that partnerships in the region “will create colossal new opportunities for our people”.

Russia and Ukraine have been fighting for more than six months and many casualties have already been recorded as a result of the conflict.

2023 Elections: Why I Refused To Join APC, PDP – Chris Imumolen

Ahead of the 2023 elections, the Accord Party (AP) presidential candidate, Christopher Imumolen has explained why he refused to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) or the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Imumolen who described the current political system as that which has failed the people in more than two decades of its return to democracy said he needed to make a clean break from the prominent political parties.

The youthful presidential hopeful disclosed that he chose AP in order to ventilate his political aspirations to give a fresh view of what he feels governance should look like.

In a TV interview, he said the APC and the PDP have had the opportunity to govern the country since 1999 but failed to deliver the dividends of democracy.

“I decided not to join any of these so-called big political parties because I wanted a fresh perspective on governance”, Imumolen said.

“I told myself that if I wanted to be the agent of change that I desired to be, I needed to dissociate from the system that hasn’t really worked despite a host of erudite fellows.”

He described Nigeria as a company having the same challenge of management despite several attempts by different personnel to make a difference.

“It’s just like an organization which keeps having the same problem again and again for say, 30 years.

“When you notice that the solution proffered by those who are supposed to know is not working, the best thing to do will be to look outside.

“To bring someone who has not been tainted by the malaise that does not make things work in that organization.

“I am that someone who is untainted by the system, with no affiliations or any vested interests.

“I will look at the country’s problems from a fresh prism as I am better placed to solve them”, Imumolen assured.
