Kenya Budgets $1.6m For William Ruto’s Inauguration

The inauguration of William Ruto, who will take office next week, will cost the Kenyan government Sh200 million, or $1.662 million.

Ruto was declared the winner of the Monday presidential election by the nation’s Supreme Court.

The Assumption of Office Committee was charged with preparing for the transfer of power from President Uhuru Kenyatta to the Vice President, according to a statement released on Tuesday by the Kenyan Treasury Department.

“The allocation of Sh200 million under the Executive Office of the President is provided for in the National Treasury for Assumption of Office activities,” the Treasury says in a report on the Pre-Election Economic Update.

The Kenyan Constitution stipulates that the President-elect will be sworn-in seven days after the Supreme Court upholds the election victory following an election petition.
