Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, has arrived Port Harcourt for the commissioning of the Rumueprikom Flyover constructed by the Rivers State Government under the administration Governor Nyesom Wike.

Oshiomhole arrived at Wike’s private residence in Obio Akpor local government area of Rivers hours after attending the flag off of the campaign of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Presidential Candidate of the APC, in Jos, Plateau State.

Wike has intensified his relationship with chieftains of the ruling party since he fell out with the leadership of his own Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The governor, who contested the presidential primaries of the PDP but lost the ticket to former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, had indicated interest in being Atiku’s running mate, but his Delta counterpart, Ifeanyi Okowa, was chosen.

Shortly after this development, Wike called for leadership change in the opposition party, arguing that the Presidential Candidate and National Chairman of the party cannot be from the same region.

He and his allies had pulled out of the campaign of Atiku, giving the resignation of Senator Iyioricha Ayu as PDP chairman as condition for peace.

Amid the crisis, Wike held talks with Tinubu and invited key APC chieftains to commission projects in his state.

Among the ruling party bigwigs who commissioned different projects were Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker of the House of Representatives; Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State; and Senator Aliyu Wammako, former governor of Sokoto State.

The PDP leadership has expressed concerns over Wike’s attitude of bringing people outside his party to commission projects but the Rivers number one citizen argued that he does not need permission to decide be who commissions his projects

That election victory was annulled by the military.

The President said it was only the APC that could steer Nigeria to fulfill its historic purpose adding that working together with the leadership of the party, the campaign council, and its teeming supporters, the goal would be achieved.

The National Chairman of the party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, led other party stalwarts, including Tinubu to call on Nigerians to vote for the APC ticket.

Donald Trump Declares 2024 Presidential Bid

Donald Trump pulled the trigger on a third White House run on Tuesday night, setting the stage for a bruising Republican nomination battle after a poor midterm election showing by his hand-picked candidates weakened his grip on the party.

Trump officially launched a campaign for president in 2024, filing papers with the Federal Election Commission in which he declared himself a candidate for the presidency and established a new campaign committee.

Trump is expected to give a speech later in the evening at his Florida private club, Mar-a-Lago.

“America’s comeback starts right now,” the 76-year-old former US President told hundreds of supporters gathered in an ornate American flag-draped ballroom at his palatial Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.

“The voting will be much different. Are you getting ready?” Trump said.

“This will not be my campaign. This will be our campaign altogether,” he said to the cheering crowd.

Agence France-Presse reports that Trump’s unusually early entry into the White House race is being seen in Washington as an attempt to get the jump on other Republicans seeking to be the party flag-bearer in 2024 – and to stave off potential criminal charges.

Republicans are licking their wounds after disappointing midterms, widely blamed on the underperformance of Trump-anointed candidates, and some are openly asking whether Trump – with his divisive brand of politics and mess of legal woes – is the right person to carry the party colors next time around.

Several possible 2024 primary rivals are circling, chief among them the governor of Florida Ron DeSantis, who bucked the tide and won a resounding reelection victory on November 8.

Trump, who lost the 2020 elections to Democrat Joe Biden after being impeached twice by the House of Representatives, launches his latest White House bid with several potential handicaps.

He is the target of multiple investigations into his conduct before, during and after his first term as president – which could ultimately result in his disqualification.

These include allegations of fraud by his family business, his role in last year’s attack on the US Capitol, his attempt to overturn the 2020 elections, and his stashing of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago.

With Trump now a declared candidate, Biden’s attorney general, Merrick Garland, may be forced to name a special counsel to pursue the various investigations into the former president launched by the Department of Justice.

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi on Tuesday, said he did his little as governor of Anambra State and urged the incumbent governor, Chukwuma Soludo to do his best in the state as an economics professor.

Obi stated this at the 2022 Lagos Business School (LBS) Alumni Conference in Lagos.

The Anambra governor between 2006 and 2014 was reacting to Soludo’s comments that the investment he (Obi) left in government is worth close to nothing.

Also, Soludo on Monday had tackled Obi, saying he can’t win the 2023 presidential election.

“He (Soludo) remains my brother, we are very close. I remain prayerful for him. For other things which I didn’t succeed at, God has given him opportunity to do it and succeed.

“So, if there is anything pending, governance doesn’t finish, people are still in government in America, so you stop where you will stop, other people will continue from there,” Obi said.

“He is the governor of the state; he is my senior brother, he is even more intelligent than me because he is a professor, I am a trader, so he knows more and will be able to do things better than I am doing it.

“I have done my little own as a trader, now the professor is there he will do his own as a professor, the schools I didn’t roof he will roof them, that’s how government goes.”

The former governor said he left the office with the savings of 75 Billion Naira, adding that his administration saved 50 million dollars each in Access, Diamond and Fidelity banks with an interest rate of 6.5%.

He further clarifies, “The one they said is worthless, we invested 3.5 billion naira in International Breweries…that facility is there employing directly and indirectly over 10,000 Anambarians. The shares was at a time being sold at N50, today the shares is about N5 or so.

“When you spread your investment some will go up some will come down but overall the company is still there, the company is still doing well, it is still part of the global chain and everything. I needed to explain it not because I am defending comments by my brother,” the LP candidate said.

He said he left the office without owing any contractor, supplier who had executed their job, citing the examples of Innoson Motors and Zinos Computers.

The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, says the Federal Government will do away with petroleum subsidy by June 2023.

Ahmed said this on Tuesday in Abuja during a press conference to mark the end of the 28th National Economic Summit.

First, we have to engage. We have already engaged with the states and the public before it was approved as part of the medium-term plan.

“We have to do it by systematically informing the citizens about the size and the quantum of the fuel subsidy.
