Residents of Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State have been witnessing acute shortage of potable water for the past three weeks

DAILY POST gathered that many areas of the State capital, such as Government Reserved Area, GRA, Gada Biyu, Birnin Ruwa, Tullukawa, Tudun Wada, Gada Baga and Kan Wuri are the worst hit.

A 25-litre can of water is now being sold for N100 by water vendors instead of N50.

Many children were seen early in the morning searching for water in every nook and cranny of the state capital.

According to Mustapha Muhammad, six of his children stopped attending school for the past two weeks because of the water scarcity in the area.

“My children used to go out every morning to look for water for our domestic use but would not come back until after 9:00 am; so they could not go to school”, he added.

He appealed to the Zamfara State Government to look into the matter and find a lasting solution.

However, when DAILY POST visited the State water board to verify the reports, the staff of the board declined comment.
