Popular social media activist, Martins Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has been released from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
ABN TV reports that VDM had been in detention since Friday following his arrest in Abuja by the anti-graft agency. His detention sparked nationwide uproar, with many Nigerian youths taking to social media to demand his immediate and unconditional release.
According to the EFCC, the activist was arrested after failing to honour several invitations sent to him in response to multiple petitions filed against him. The Commission maintained that due process was followed in effecting his arrest.
In an update shared on his official Facebook page Wednesday evening, prominent activist and politician, Omoyele Sowore, confirmed VDM’s release with a brief post stating, “VDM Released!”
Details surrounding the conditions of his release are yet to be made public.
