Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North Senatorial District and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Privatization and Commercialization, has expressed profound sorrow over the devastating fuel tanker explosion that occurred on Saturday at Dikko, Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State.

The tragic incident claimed 86 lives, left several others injured, and destroyed nearby shops and businesses.

In a heartfelt statement, Senator Kalu extended his condolences to the families of the victims and the people of Niger State. He prayed for divine strength and comfort for those grieving the loss of their loved ones during this difficult time.

“On behalf of my family and the constituents of Abia North Senatorial District, I commiserate with the Governor of Niger State, H.E Mohammed Umaru Bago, the Government, and the good people of Niger State. I pray that God grants them the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss,” he said.

The Senator also urged the Niger State Government to take proactive steps to prevent such tragedies in the future. He emphasized the need for more spacious and secure parking areas for petroleum tanker drivers to minimize the risk of similar incidents.

Senator Kalu reiterated his commitment to supporting initiatives that prioritize the safety and welfare of Nigerians, particularly in high-risk zones, and called for collaborative efforts to safeguard lives and properties.

The Saturday inferno, which engulfed multiple petrol tankers and caused widespread destruction, has left the nation in mourning, calling attention to the urgent need for effective safety measures in the transportation and storage of hazardous materials.
