The Catholic Diocese of Minna has been thrown into mourning following the tragic death of one of its priests, Rev. Fr. James Omeh, who drowned on Sunday, May 25, 2025, while returning from an outstation where he had gone to celebrate Mass.

According to reports, the incident occurred when the makeshift bridge he was attempting to cross gave way, causing the truck he was traveling in to plunge into a deep gully. The priest was reportedly overwhelmed by the raging floodwaters and strong tide, leading to his untimely death.
Rev. Fr. Omeh was known for his dedication to serving remote and interior communities, often going the extra mile to ensure parishioners in hard-to-reach areas received the sacraments and spiritual care.
In a tribute circulating on social media and among the faithful, Fr. Omeh was hailed as “a true soldier” of the faith who “died at his post.”
The Diocese is expected to release official details regarding funeral arrangements in the coming days.
May his soul rest in perfect peace.
