President Bola Tinubu has formally requested the Senate and the House of Representatives to consider and approve a ₦1.48 trillion appropriation bill for Rivers State.

The request was conveyed in a letter read during plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio. According to President Tinubu, the proposed funds will support the Emergency Rule Government in Rivers State in addressing key sectors, including education, agriculture, healthcare, and free drug distribution.

Breaking down the proposed allocation, Akpabio stated that a significant portion of the budget is dedicated to infrastructure development. Additional allocations include ₦166 billion for healthcare services, ₦75.6 billion for education, ₦31.4 billion for agricultural programs, and ₦5 billion for the free distribution of medications to all residents of the state.

Following the reading of the letter, the Senate President referred the proposal to the Senate Committee on Emergency Rule in Rivers State, instructing the committee to review and report back promptly.
