A health and family planning campaign organisation, The Challenge Initiative, TCI has trained no fewer than 200 Abia State health workers on how to safely administer Long Acting Reversible Contraceptives (LARC) so as to help families on adequate child spacing.

This according to the organisation will ensure the health of the mother, the child as well as assist families in planning their budgeting.

Speaking on Friday in Umuahia the Abia State capital, the Coordinator Family Planning unit of TCI, Lady Adanna Iheama Kelechi noted that TCI’s interventions in the state has yielded positive results.

She added that the number of new family planning, FP acceptors increased by 100% in the last one year.

She further applauded the state government for considering family planning in its budget line which was also released to further advance the campaign for families to adopt family planning to give birth to number of children within their means of income.

Lady Kelechi further highlighted that the awareness campaign TCI has embarked upon has enabled leaders and stakeholders to proudly speak about and support family planning.

Earlier in her remarks, the State Programme Coordinator TCI, Dr. Obaseme Edet emphasised that The Challenge Initiative (TCI) and NextGen have continues to partner with Abia State Government and other Stakeholders.

He expressed delight that the State is gradually attaining self-reliance in the Family Planning Programme.

According to Dr. Edet, TCI’s high impact intervention has scaled up to rural communities in the state beyond the city centre which she said has continued to attract more Family Planning partners to the state.
