The Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji has called on Abians to remain calm and not be alarmed by the increased presence of the police and other security agencies at the Assembly complex.

This is contained in a statement on Tuesday issued by the chief press secretary to the Speaker, Jude Chijioke Ndukwe.

According to the Speaker, such increased presence of security officials was necessitated by need to maintain the security of the legislative complex.

He said non-sitting of the lawmakers have nothing to do with any request from the executive before the Assembly, noting that there nothing from the executive for consideration, contrary to rumours.

The statement reads in part, “Contrary to the insinuations in some quarters, the non-sitting of Members for now has nothing to do with any approval or non approval of any request from the Executive as such requests are usually channelled as Appropriation Bill or supplementary Appropriation Bill and as of today, there is no request for approval of any Appropriation by the Executive that is pending before the House. The House had since passed both requests last December.

“The Speaker requests security agencies in the state to warn political actors working to destabilise the State House of Assembly to desist from such acts and toe the path of peace so that the current administration ends in peace.”
