Kano State Police have reported that fragments of collapsed buildings in Kano City captured some scavengers on Thursday near Daula Hotel and Eid Praying Ground.

SP. Abdullah Haruna Kiyawa, the spokesman for the Kano State Police Command, confirmed this in a statement made available to DAILY POST.

About 106 alleged scavengers were arrested for criminal charges such as trespass, damage, and theft.

He explained that despite repeated warnings from the Police Command; the scavengers refused to avoid moving around such places.

“Unfortunately, on Thursday, 15th of June 2023, at about 02:30 pm, there were reports that remnants of the demolished buildings collapsed and trapped some scavengers at Daula Hotel and Eid Praying Ground,” he said.

According to him, the Commissioner of Police also joined rescue workers from the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, and State Government officials for a combined briefing on some casualties with a high likelihood of mortality.

He expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished those injured a swift recovery.

He asked parents and community leaders to warn their children to avoid the areas for their own safety.
