The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has named the Majority Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Engr. Major M. Jack, as its deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections.
Jack, who represents Akuku-Toru Constituency I, will serve as running mate to the party’s governorship flagbearer, Rt. Hon. Kingsley Ogundu Chinda.
The announcement was made on Monday by the Rivers State chapter of the APC following extensive consultations among party stakeholders and leaders of the Rainbow Coalition. Party sources confirmed that the choice of Jack was aimed at balancing the ticket geographically and strengthening grassroots support across the riverine areas of the state.
Jack, an engineer and seasoned legislator from Abonnema in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, defected to the APC in December 2025 alongside Speaker Martin Amaewhule and several other members of the State House of Assembly. He currently serves as Majority Leader and has been a prominent figure in the 10th Assembly.
In a statement issued by the party, the APC described Jack as a tested leader with deep legislative experience and strong community roots. “Hon. Major Jack brings competence, loyalty, and an understanding of the yearnings of the people of Rivers State. His emergence completes a strong and inclusive ticket that reflects the diversity of our state,” the statement read.
Chinda, who emerged as the APC governorship candidate in May 2026 after polling 268,497 votes as the sole aspirant, welcomed the development. He said Jack’s selection would enhance the party’s chances of delivering good governance, infrastructure development, and improved security to Rivers people.
