Review Of 1999 Constitution Will Address Concerns Of Ndigbo — Gov. Uzodinma

Governor of Imo State, Sen. Hope Uzodinma has expressed optimism that the review of the 1999 Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria will address concerns of majority of Nigerians, particularly Ndigbo, ABN TV reports.

He expressed displeasure that the constitution as currently constituted has not been able to minister to the concerns of various strata of the Nigerian masses, adding that it has fuelled agitations across the country.

Delivering a welcome address in Owerri, the Imo State capital on Wednesday at the ongoing 1999 Constitution Review Public Hearing comprising representatives of Imo and Abia state governments and other stakeholders in both States, Governor Uzodinma noted that the Constitution when reviewed will address issues around rotational Presidency, State Police, indigeneship, devolution of more powers to States and many more.

He said, “All these issues can be resolved through Constitution amendment. This is the unique opportunity this public hearing offers to our people.

“For us as leaders in the South East, we have been canvassing for more equitable way of meeting the desire of our people. We may not have been confrontational about it but certainly we have not been complacent.

“While some people glory in politicising both economic and security situation in the South East, our people have stayed without tension because they fully understand the yearnings of our people.”

The Governor reiterated his commitment and love for the welfare of Ndigbo, insisting that the people he described as alarmists and pretenders do not love Igbo more than he does.

He underlined that he wants an enduring prescription that will comprehensively address the challenges of Ndigbo in modern Nigeria.
