A policeman identified as Inspector Benedict Atule who is attached to the home of a member of Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Ginger Onwusibe in Ntigha Umukalu village Isialangwa North Local Government Area at the weekend shot and killed his colleague, Inspector Samuel Ugwuor, killing him on the spot.

A source who spoke with ABN TV on the condition of anonymity said a quarrel ensued between the duo when the suspect allegedly poured hot water on the deceased’s shoes.

This generated to a heated argument before the suspect, of the Special Protection Unit, Base 15 Anambra State shot his colleague.

He was said to have immediately fled the scene of the incident to state CID in Umuahia with his rifle.

The matter has been reported at divisional police headquarters in Okpuala and an investigation has commenced to unravel the reason for the shooting.

The deceased has been deposited at FMC Umuahia while his rifle, and ammunition have been recovered, ABN TV learnt.

Onwusibe who currently represents Isialangwa North constituency is seeking election into the House of Representatives on the platform of Labour Party.

When contacted, the PPRO of Abia State command, SP Geoffrey Ogbonna confirmed the incident, saying the erring police officer is in detention as the investigation is ongoing.

He condemned the act and described it as unprofessional, saying if found guilty, the full weight of the law will be visited on the erring officer.
