The Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG in-charge of Zone 5 Benin Edo State, AIG Lawan Tanko Jimeta is dead, ABN TV report.
He died in the early hours of Sunday at an undisclosed medical facility.
A police source who revealed this to ABN TV on Sunday said the late senior police officer fell in a domestic accident.
He said, “We lost AIG Zone 5 Benin. Lawan Tanko Jimeta this morning. May Almighty Allah grant him Jannatul Firdaus.
“He slipped and fell in the bathroom, smashed his head, and was in the hospital for over 5 days before his death”.
AIG Lawan Tanko Jimeta assumed duty on 13th January 2022, after taking over from AIG. Ahmad Abdur-Rahman who has been redeployed to the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State.
The Zone comprises Delta and Edo State Police Commands.
AIG Lawan Tanko Jimeta was born on 9th September, 1964 in Jimeta, Yola North Local Government Area of Adamawa State. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in the English Language from the University of Maiduguri; and a Masters degree in Peace and Conflict Studies from the National Open University.
AIG. Lawan Tanko Jimeta, psc enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force on 3rd March 1990 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and was trained in the Nigeria Police Academy Annex, Kaduna State.
He has served in various capacities: Operations Officer; Orita Challenge Police Division, Ibadan, Oyo State Command, Personal Assistant to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Department of Training and Development, FHQ Annex, Lagos State. Divisional Crime Officer, Victoria Island Police Division, Lagos, Divisional Crime Officer, Maroko Police Division, Lagos. Operations Officer, Security Intelligence Bureau, FHQ Annex, Lagos. CSP Administration, SIB/CIB, FHQ Annex, Lagos; Chief of Training, Directorate or Peace-keeping, FHQ, Abuja; Area Commander, Suleja, Niger State Command. Deputy Director and then later Director, Directorate of Peace-keeping, FHQ, Abuja. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zonal Operations Department, Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja. Commissioner of Police, Central Criminal Registry, FCIID, FHQ, Abuja. Commissioner of Police, Police Mobile Force, FHQ, Abuja, the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Police Command, Benin City, Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Police Command, before his redeployment as the 21st Commandant of the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, where he was later promoted to the prestigious rank of an Assistant Inspector-General of Police.
