A new rift has emerged in the Okoye family as Nigerian singer Peter Okoye, one half of the now-defunct PSquare duo, publicly clashed with his elder brother and former manager, Jude Okoye, over a cryptic social media post.
On Friday, Jude Okoye shared a message on Instagram that appeared to take aim at former collaborators. While he didn’t mention names, the post accused certain individuals of becoming ungrateful and greedy after finding success with his help.
“They were big, influential, and successful when I was shouldering them with my platform… until they got greedy and wanted to eat alone,” Jude wrote.
He added that they later blamed him for their failures after choosing to leave for “freedom”.
Jude also alleged that attempts had been made to blackmail him with false accusations of money laundering and fraud in an effort to get him imprisoned.
Peter Okoye quickly fired back via a post on X (formerly Twitter), disputing Jude’s claims and accusing him of being disrespectful and manipulative.
“JUST BECAUSE YOU’RE OLDER DOESN’T MEAN YOU DESERVE RESPECT. RESPECT IS EARNED, NOT GIVEN,” Peter wrote. He accused Jude of wishing financial ruin upon him and of making similar disparaging remarks to EFCC officials before his alleged imprisonment.
Peter also rejected the claim that Jude had been the backbone of his music career.
“You were employed as a manager by Peter and Paul and got sacked, just like the two managers before you,” he stated.
He went on to highlight the success of his solo career, calling it “more rewarding and profitable” than the P-Square era and emphasizing that it has brought him peace of mind.
Addressing their ongoing legal battles, Peter posed a pointed question: “Despite the fact we are in court! You still haven’t answered the question—ARE YOU A THIEF OR NOT?”
He concluded with a strong statement: “I have stopped playing nice and being the mature one while getting disrespected… Life isn’t about begging people for fair treatment! It’s about matching energy… Tit for tat!”
This latest social media exchange reignites long-standing tensions within the Okoye family. The rift between Peter, his twin brother Paul, and Jude played a major role in PSquare’s breakup in 2017. Although the twins briefly reconciled in 2021, the unresolved issues with Jude appear far from over.
