The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State for the 2027 general election, Dr. Kelechi Anosike, has declared that the party is united, rejuvenated and prepared to reclaim power in the state.
Anosike made the declaration on his arrival in Abia during a homecoming reception organised by party supporters following his emergence as the PDP’s governorship candidate.
Addressing journalists at the airport, the PDP flag bearer expressed gratitude to God, the national leadership of the party and supporters for the confidence reposed in him.
He specifically appreciated the PDP national leadership for what he described as its commitment to repositioning the party in Abia State, while describing the large turnout of supporters at the airport as a clear indication that many Abians are ready to see the PDP return to government.
“The crowd you see here today is a loud testimony that the people of Abia are willing to have the PDP back. The PDP is strong, united and has found new energy. This homecoming follows my emergence as the party’s governorship candidate, and I sincerely appreciate our stakeholders, delegates, the State Working Committee and every supporter of our great party,” he said.
Anosike maintained that the PDP has entered a new phase of unity and renewed purpose, declaring that the party is returning with “new standards and a new direction.”
The governorship candidate later visited the PDP State Secretariat, where he met with party leaders, delegates and members to express appreciation for their support during the party’s primary election.
Describing the gathering as a “thank-you visit,” Anosike said the visit was organised to appreciate delegates, party executives at the ward, local government and state levels, as well as other stakeholders who contributed to his emergence as the party’s flag bearer.
He recalled telling delegates during the primary election that the party needed a candidate capable of not only winning the primary but also securing victory in the 2027 governorship election.
“I came into the race fully prepared, having counted the cost and the challenges ahead. Today, I thank you for the confidence you placed in me by electing me as your governorship candidate. I assure you that I will remain committed to the promises I made,” he said.
While stressing that the PDP had not officially commenced its campaign, Anosike reiterated that the visit was purely to appreciate party faithful for their support.
He, however, outlined part of his vision for the state’s workforce, promising that if elected governor, his administration would undertake a comprehensive review of workers’ salaries and address outstanding entitlements.
According to him, unpaid promotion and leave allowances owed to civil servants at both the state and local government levels would be cleared under his administration.
“Abia is not poor; Abia is poorly managed. With prudent management, we will restructure the system and ensure that all outstanding allowances are paid,” Anosike stated.
He concluded by thanking party members for their loyalty and support and prayed for God’s protection as they returned to their respective destinations.
