Chief Obi Aguocha has called on the federal government to immediately release the detained leader of IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

The Labour Party candidate for Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency of Abia State was reacting to the judgement of the court of appeal in Abuja which discharged and acquitted the separatist leader.

In a release on Thursday, Aguocha, the Udo Ji Agu-Ohuhu and Ogwumabiri Umuahia while expressing gladness over the court ruling advised the federal government not to appeal judgement.

“I respectfully call on President Mohammed Buhari to seize this golden opportunity to direct the Attorney General And Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami ensure that, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu regains his freedom immediately to prevent some opportunistic political parties from making his continued detention an issue and thereby heating up the polity.

“I am of the strong view that this court’s verdict has provided the Federal Government a legal platform for a political solution to address some of the issues agitating the minds of the people of South East,” he said.

He also advised security agencies against re-arresting Nnamdi Kanu when released but all he enjoy his freedom, urging everyone to remain calm and prayerful in the coming days for the life and peaceful release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
