The Abia State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Barr. Mrs. Gladys Adama, has urged corps members of the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream 1 to make meaningful contributions in their various host communities during their service year.

She made this call on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, during the official closing ceremony of the orientation course held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Umunna, Bende Local Government Area. The ceremony was moved to the camp’s multipurpose hall following a heavy downpour.

Addressing the corps members, Mrs. Adama congratulated them on successfully completing the three-week orientation program. She praised their resilience, discipline, and commitment while urging them to stay focused on the scheme’s objectives and avoid distractions that could undermine their safety or service.

The State Coordinator underscored the importance of integrity, responsibility, and collaboration, advising corps members to build positive networks with like-minded peers. She also encouraged them to seek guidance from their supervisors and other NYSC officials whenever necessary.

Mrs. Adama reminded the corps members of the importance of continuing with the post-camp Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program and mandated them to report to their places of primary assignment before embarking on any travel.

In her words of caution, she advised against night journeys and emphasized the need to prioritize personal safety at all times.

Appealing to corps employers and community stakeholders, the Coordinator called for the provision of conducive accommodations and stipends that reflect current economic realities, to support the corps members during their service year.

She concluded her address by expressing confidence in the capacity of the corps members to make lasting and positive impacts in their places of primary assignment. She encouraged them to make lasting memories, forge valuable friendships, and embrace the service year as a period of growth and contribution.
