The National Universities Commission (NUC) has restored Medicine and Surgery programme of the Abia State University (ABSU) Uturu earlier withdrawn two years ago.

The commission also granted accreditation to seven new courses in the university.

The ABSU Registrar, Dr. Acho Elendu who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday gave the names of the courses and their status below:

1. Medicine & Surgery – Full
2. Nursing Science – Full
3. Optometry – Full
4. Biochemistry – Full
5. French – Full
6. Sociology – Full
7. Business Education – Full

He said the university had presented the seven courses in November/December, 2022 accreditation exercise.

The statement read in part, “The Vice-Chancellor, Distinguished Professor Onyemachi M. Ogbulu appreciated the uncommon moral and financial support of the education-friendly Executive Governor and Visitor to Abia State University, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, in achieving this feat, describing him as a consummate academic, cerebral administor and scholar-in-governance.

“The contributions of the Governing Council, Management, Senate, Staff and Students of the University were also noted.

“Full accreditation status is tenable for five (5) years.”
